If Only,
Saga 1,
Chapter 6,
By  JessiE

It was almost time for everyone to go home. Brian still had not gone home yet, even after Nick paged him fifteen times. He was about to go home, but he just wanted to drop Amanda home first. Amanda and Jennifer always went home together, but it seemed like they would not be going home together on that day because they were not friends to Amanda's thoughts anymore. They even stayed at the same apartment. But Amanda decided to stay at her sister's house. She just wanted to go to her apartment and take some of her stuffs out.

Kindly, I'm letting Jennifer to stay at the apartment, Amanda said to herself.

She and Brian were walking and talking to each other, heading towards the coffee shop to have another drink. This time, to have a glass of fruit juice. Brian still did not want to go home yet. He
knew the reason why Nick paged him and he did not think it was so emergency. Brian thought he would like to spend time enjoying his rest time from his job for a while longer. That was, to drink with someone whom had interviewed him before.

Meanwhile, Caitlin was still at her desk in the office, watching Josh from far. She would like to wait until most people had gone home first. Then, she wanted to talk to Josh.

Josh was still pondering about Jennifer. He had not thought about any other stuffs after the fight. He was just meditating all of the time, till Caitlin came to him.

"Josh... aren't you going home yet?" she said gently.

"What?" he looked at his watch. "Oh my God, I didn't realize it's time to go home already. Thanks for reminding me."

          "Oh, don't mention it."

Josh cleared his desk up. "How about you? Aren't you going home yet?"

"I'm going now, just thought I'd come and say something to you before I go."

"I see. You don't need to say anything anyway. Right now, I just don't wanna think about anything anymore."

           "You sure?"

           "Yes."

"Josh... I know what you're thinking. Don't think about Jennifer so much."

"I know. Anyway, you always go home by taxi, right? Why don't I give you a lift today?"

           Caitlin was astonished. "Really?"

"Yeah, why not? It's time to go home. There's hardly anyone else around here."

This is better than what I thought!

"Sure, okay then, if you don't mind."

           "Come on then."

Both of them started walking. They left of the building and went into Josh's car when they reached it.

They did not talk at all while they were in the car. Caitlin was just trying to start a conversation but it seemed like Josh only answered with 'oh' or 'I see' or any other one or two words.

I'm not in the mood for talking right now, Caitlin, so just give up trying to talk to me, he thought. He even wondered why he offered her to send her home when he had never even done that before.

"So, Josh... I'm sorry again of what happened between you and Jennifer today."

Oh, great. She won't give up talking. But now that she had mentioned it...

He started remembering all the things that had happened on that day. Then, he could not stay focused to driving anymore.

Why the hell did you do that?

           What? What did I do?

Don't pretend almost like you don't know. Amanda and I had a fight  just now, and it's all your fault!

You and Amanda had a fight?

Yes... come on Josh! It's your fault. Amanda's paper works were  stolen and she found them in my drawer. I didn't steal it, you did!

Why are you so quiet? Because you're surprised that I finally  found out you stole my work, is it?

What are you talking about? I didn't steal anything from anyone!

Of course you wouldn't admit it. It's okay Josh, I don't care. But  from now on, both of us are officially off! I'd never talk to you  again for the rest of my life!

But Jennifer! I didn't steal anything! You have to believe me!

"Josh?" Caitlin spoke up, but Josh did not hear her.

Jennifer! I didn't steal anything! You have to believe me!

"Josh, are you okay? Josh? Josh!"

I didn't steal anything! You have to believe me!

He was not paying attention when he was driving. Caitlin obviously noticed this. She got worried.

          You have to believe me!

"I didn't do anything Jennifer. But I'd take this all as my fault. I'm sorry for everything again, Jennifer..."

What? Caitlin got anxious when he heard what Josh said.

"Josh...?" she got more worried. But on the last minute, Josh finally realized the traffic condition around him was not going so well because of the way he was driving.

"Oh my God!" he turned his car around when he realized there was a big lorry right in front of his car. He drove the car right towards a big mast at the side of the road. Then, he tried to push the breaks but by that split second, the breaks did not work. Josh thought he would die in less than ten seconds, and the only thought he had in his mind was Jennifer.

"Oh Jennifer... I'm sorry for everything..." he said.

At times like this he's still thinking about her! Caitlin panicked.

"Josh, control this car! Josh! Are you listening?"

         "Jennifer!"

In a very short while, the car hit the mast. Josh went unconscious while Caitlin only had a wound at her forehead. Josh was bleeding profusely. Josh's condition was truly worse than Caitlin.

"Josh..." Caitlin muttered. She was still conscious.

"Josh...?" she looked at him. She was shocked to see his condition. She went out of the car slowly and knelt. There was a big crowd when she looked around.

"Help... call 911..." she lay down right on the street.

         Josh...
