If Only,
Saga 1,
Chapter 5
By JessiE
Brian stood near the door, listening
to what Caitlin said. He was about to enter the EntertainmenTeen office
to meet Jennifer. Amanda was just being quiet, wondering whether she was
doing the right thing or not. Amanda was only listening. It was Caitlin
who was telling Brian everything.
"Brian, this is what happened. Amanda
and Jennifer had a fight just now."
"Fight? Why?"
"This is what I'm telling you about.
They fought because Amanda's paper works were stolen. Jennifer was the
one who stole it."
"She stole Amanda's paper works?"
he turned to Amanda. "Is that true?"
Amanda just nodded.
"Whew. I can't believe this. She
seems nice. But how can she do that?"
"Maybe she just wanted compliments
from our boss. Because she thought Amanda's paper works are good and complete,
she took them and thought she'd get compliments out of the paper works,"
Caitlin said. "Anyway, Brian, let me continue. There's this one guy at the
office named Josh. He's Jennifer's good friend, and Amanda's too. He's nice.
We now know the real Jennifer. I mean, how could she steal someone's paper
works selfishly? Therefore we don't want her to be involved with a nice
guy like Josh. If they stay being friends, Jennifer might even do something
bad to him as well someday, maybe stealing his work or something. That's
why we're asking for your help... to separate them both."
"I'm willing to help. They should
be separated. It's for that guy's sake. His name is Josh, right?
"Yes. And thanks a lot because you're
willing to help us."
"Sorry. We know you're having a break
from your work. Now it seems like you'll have to do something in the midst
of your rest time," Amanda said.
"Oh, that's nothing, really. It's
good to know I can help someone."
"Thanks. I mean, it's weird why we're
asking you to do all this when there are just a lot more people we can
ask help from. Even we can try doing it ourselves. But we think with your
help, it might work better. We were going to meet Jennifer in there and
tell something to her that she might not believe. That's our plan at first.
Then we met you. Caitlin then thought up a new idea immediately. You're
actually Jennifer's favorite Backstreet Boy. So we believe Jennifer will
believe what you tell her."
"So I'm going in there to tell her
something, right? I understand. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't. But
anyway, what am I supposed to tell her?"
"Here it goes," Caitlin said. "Firstly,
you're supposed to say that you just came from the coffee shop. You heard
some people around you saying her name as well as Amanda and Josh's names.
So you listened to their conversation. You kinda heard from them that one
of them actually saw Josh stealing Amanda's paper works and putting them
into Jennifer's drawer. Tell Jennifer that you believe that that's related
to Jennifer. You also believe that those people who were talking about it
are Jennifer's colleagues. They also said that Jennifer didn't know
Josh was the one who stole Amanda's paper works. They dare not to tell Jennifer
about it. They thought it'd make things worse, and they didn't want things
to get any worse than the way it had been. Then only you knew that Amanda
and Jennifer had fought because Amanda thought Jennifer was the one who
stole her
work. Amanda was wrong..."
She is truly wrong... she just
didn't know, Caitlin thought. She continued explaining.
"... then you followed those so called
Jennifer's colleagues here when they went away from the coffee shop. Tell
Jennifer, you decided to tell her about what you heard because you knew
she didn't know about it yet. Remember to convince Jennifer that Josh really
stole Amanda's paper works. She might not believe you, but in any
way you can, just try to convince her. Like, if it weren't true, why would
her colleagues talk about it? Or just say anything that would make her believe
Josh is the stealer. So... what else? I think those were all that you need
to say to Jennifer. When I was trying to make this thing up, I was confused
myself. But I still understand it. So far, do you understand what I said,
Brian?"
Amanda and Briane exchanged confused
glances.
"I don't really understand. What
you said was sort of confusing," Brian said.
"I think you almost made me thought
some stuffs that you just said were true," Amanda exclaimed. Caitlin felt
kind of worried when Amanda said it.
Some parts are true... especially
when I said you were wrong when you thought Jennifer was the one who stole
your paper works, Caitlin thought.
"Okay, never mind, I think I understand,"
Brian said while processing back all the things Caitlin had said in his
mind.
"Brian... if Jennifer said anything
else that I haven't told you, you can just think of your own answer. Just
don't let it ruin anything," said Caitlin.
"Sure, count on me on this."
He entered the office. Caitlin already
told him where he could find Jennifer. Therefore, he knew where to look
for her.
Uh... I can't believe this. What
am I doing? I believe Josh is a nice guy. So why am I going to tell Jennifer
that he's the stealer who stole Amanda's paper works? The bad person here
is Jennifer. How could she steal something from her friend anyway? Now I'm gonna tell lies about a nice guy to a bad woman, he thought
as he was walking.
He went to the second floor by the
elevator. He noticed some people were looking at him just the moment he
stepped into that building.
Oh, why can't I have a day without
anyone looking at me like I'm a ghost? Or anyone following me like I'm
a prisoner who just escaped from prison?
He thanked God nobody was following
him. He was wearing a cowboy hat, which was slightly helping for him not
to get recognized.
Then he spotted Jennifer, sitting
at her desk, pondering sadly.
"Jennifer," he addresses when
he got near her. Jennifer was absolutely surprised to see him.
"Brian...? What are you doing
here?"
Brian had a short thinking
for a while. He was processing all the things that Caitlin said to her
just now again, to make sure he would say everything.
"Okay, Jennifer, I have something
to tell you. Listen to me carefully, and don't say a word till I'm done
talking."
Hahaha, now I think I sound
a bit like someone who's trying to threat someone else to really listen
to me or else I'm going to kill that person, Brian thought as he chuckled
to himself.
"What?" Jennifer asked.
So, he told her all the things
Caitlin told him. It was not so good for Brian to see Jennifer looking
hazed and confused. He just wanted her to understand. Truthfully, he was
not in the mood to talk to her. He truly hated her because she betrayed
Amanda. Brian also hated saying bad things about Josh, although he did not
even know which guy around him was Josh. But his only aim was to make Jennifer
understand what he was saying.
"So, Jennifer, do you understand?"
Jennifer seemed speechless.
She nodded thoughtlessly.
She understood what I said
so fast? Amazing. I don't even understand wholly of what I said yet till
now.
"You're sure, Brian? You heard
my colleagues say that?"
"I'm positive. Although I don't
know them... but I followed them till I reach this place. That's how I
found you. I decided to tell you about it since I thought you had not known."
"Oh... where are they? Are
they anywhere around?"
"Well..." he looked around,
pretending to be looking for Jennifer's colleagues.
Yeah right. Who am I looking
for anyway? Like those people I just said to Jennifer really exist.
"... I don't know. I don't
really remember how they look like."
"I see..." she sighed. "I guess
it's true then. Josh stole the paper works and put them into my drawer.
But why would he do that?"
"Oh, well... I don't know.
I just heard your colleagues talking about it, that's all."
"Well, Brian, thanks for your
information. If it's not because of you, I wouldn't have known who actually
caused all this."
"It's absolutely nothing. In
fact, I wonder why I come here. I shouldn't bother anyone else's problems."
"No, you're not bothering,
you're helping me. You cleared out the truth. Thanks."
"No need to thank me—"
His pager beeped again. Nick was the one who paged him again.
"Pager? You have a pager?"
"Yup. I'm sorry, I have to
leave now. Nick's calling me."
"That's okay. Thanks for your
help anyway."
He smiled. "Bye."
He went away hurriedly.
Glad I'm done. Now I gotta
run home, before Nick gets mad.
At her desk, Jennifer was still
stunned of what Brian told her.
"Josh..." Jennifer muttered.
Why did he do that? Stealing
Amanda's paper works and putting them into my drawer, causing me to be
blamed?
She got up from her chair
and went straight to Josh's desk. Josh was surprised to see her, looking
extremely upset.
"Why the hell did you do that?"
she said loudly. All the people around her looked at her. No other
sound could be heard anymore, except her voice.
"What?" Josh asked very anxiously.
"What did I do?"
"Don't pretend almost like
you don't know. Amanda and I had a fight just now, and it's all your fault!"
He was stunned. "You and Amanda
had a fight?"
"Yes... come on Josh! It's
your fault. Amanda's paper works were stolen and she found them in my drawer.
I didn't steal it, you did!"
From not knowing anything
at all, Josh immediately understood everything. But he knew he did not steal
Amanda's paper works.
"Why are you so quiet? Because
you're surprised that I finally found out you stole my work, is it?"
"What are you talking about?"
he stood up. "I didn't steal anything from anyone!"
"Of course you wouldn't admit
it. It's okay Josh, I don't care. But from now on, both of us are officially
off! I'd never talk to you again for the rest of my life!" Jennifer walked
away madly.
"But Jennifer! I didn't steal
anything! You have to believe me!"
But Jennifer kept
walking away without any reactions. Meanwhile, everybody was still looking
at them both, including Amanda and Caitlin who got back there after
Brian left Jennifer. Actually, Brian had not even left the place yet.
He was just standing at the entrance of the office, looking at Jennifer and
the guy whom he believed was Josh. He was about to leave the office when Jennifer
started yelling at Josh. Somehow he did not feel good at all of what he had
done and what just happened.
"What are you looking at?!
Mind your own business!" Josh yelled. He sat on his chair back again, thinking
about what happened.
On the other hand, Caitlin
was smiling. She was more conceited than before when Amanda and Jennifer
fought. She had completed her mission.
I wonder what will happen
next. Will Jennifer tell Claudia about this? If she told her, things will
start to stumble around. But no matter what, I don't think she'd do that.
Right now, I don't really need to care about that. I'll think about it later.
But now, I know Josh and
Jennifer are officially not friends anymore. And Josh is now available...
he's mine now!
