If Only,
Saga 1,
Chapter 4
By  JessiE

Amanda felt very angry. She was very moody on that day. She did not want to talk to anybody at all, especially Jennifer. On the other hand, Jennifer was trying to talk to Amanda to convince her that she did not steal the papers. However, Amanda ignored Jennifer and she did not listen to her.

Jennifer tried everything to convince Amanda but it all was a failure. She wondered how could the papers be in her drawer.

To me, this is disastrous and it's the most awful thing that has ever happened to me... Jennifer pondered at her desk.

Caitlin was taking advantage of this. She was still keeping her plan going on well. She wanted to meet Amanda at her desk, but Amanda was not there or anywhere in the office. Caitlin thought she
may have gone out outside.

Where else can she be right now anyway? She's nowhere to be found here. Besides, it's lunch time.

She went looking for Amanda outside the office and saw her at a coffee shop. Therefore Caitlin came over to meet her.

"Hey Amanda..." Caitlin sat down opposite to Amanda.

Amanda was surprised to see Caitlin. She was reluctant to have anyone talking to her in her bad mood. "What, Caitlin?"

"Look, I know you're having a bad mood today, I saw you and Jennifer quarreling today. Besides, I think I'm the only person who knows that you didn't want to be friends with Jennifer anymore. So
sorry to know about that..."

"Urh, I hate this topic. Thank God, Josh doesn't know about this. If he knows 'bout this, I don't know what will his reaction be."

"We shouldn't tell Josh about it though."

"Yeah... I'm sure Jennifer won't tell him about it too. It could break his heart. All three of us have been good friends since high school. But now... it has changed."

"And it all caused by Jennifer. How could she steal your work? Lucky for her, no reports would be given to Claudia that she stole your work. You won't tell her about it... will you?"

"No... lucky enough for Jennifer! Or else she could get fired. I still have pitty for her... lucky Jennifer!

"Anyway, I wanna tell you something."

          "What?"

"You know Josh likes Jennifer, right? You also know Jennifer likes Josh too, right?"

          "Yeah... your point?"

"Well, Jennifer is truly a bad person. She even stole your work! I just think...  maybe we should keep Josh away from Jennifer. You'll never know whether Jennifer will do the same to Josh or not- or she can even do another worse thing to Josh. If she could do it to you, she could do it to anyone too- including Josh."

Amanda then gave full attention to Caitlin. She thought about what Caitlin said for a while.

          "You know, Caitlin, you're right..."

"See! We have to do something."

          "What can we do?"

"We'll have to set them apart- make them don't like each other anymore."

          Amanda was amazed.

          "Set them apart?"

Caitlin nodded. "I have a perfect plan. Care to cooperate with me?"

Amanda agreed without thinking any further. "Why not?"

"Let's go back to the office... I'll tell you more..." Caitlin got up. Amanda followed her to go back to her workplace without saying anything. She was still moody.

Before they could even go farther, somebody bumped into Amanda.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" a familiar voice spoke up.

"It's okay..." Amanda said, lying. Of course it's not okay... blind man! Watch out where you're going!

"Brian Littrell?" Caitlin asked when she looked at the face of the man who bumped into Amanda. Amanda was surprised to hear what Caitlin said.

          "Brian?" Amanda exclaimed.

          "Amanda... yeah, you're Amanda right?"

She nodded. "What a surprise! What are you doing here?" Amanda'sanger disappeared to know the man who made her became angry was Brian.

"Well... a man like me can have a cup of coffee like any other regular people, right? In fact, I heard this is one of the best coffee shops in America. But I hate being here too... I can be easily recognized by some people."

"That's regular for celebs like you. Any girls came over to you to have autoraphs or something?"

          "Um, not really."

"See. Life can't be that bad. You're wearing a cowboy hat... maybe that's why some people can't recognize you."

          "Maybe."

Amanda smiled. Brian's presence made her forgot everything, for a while. Then she realized she had not introduced Caitlin to Brian yet.

"Oh yeah Brian, this is Caitlin... sure, Caitlin I'm sure you know this is Brian."

"Hi Caitlin. You work with Amanda?"

          Caitlin nodded.

          "That reminds me. Where's Jennifer?"

Hearing Brian mentioning her name, Amanda became upset again. "She's... doing her work."

"So you two are here to get some drinks to rest from work?"

"Yup—" Something suddenly beeped when Cailin was trying to continue talking. It was Brian's pager.

"You have a pager?" Amanda asked.

"Just got one. Weird, eh?" Brian took his pager and looked at it. "Nick called me. I've to get going."

"Wait!" Caitlin said loudly, almost like there was something emergency. "I need some help from you."

Brian kept still for a moment. "Well—"

"Please, I need major help. It won't take too long."

"Okay, then." Brian kept his pager. "Wait here. I'm going to pay for my coffee." He went away.

Amanda turned to Caitlin. "Caitlin, what are you planning for?"

"Amanda, here's the deal actually. I used to have a plan only involving Jennifer, Josh and us. Now I have another idea, it mighteven work more perfectly*. Jennifer's favorite Backstreet Boy is Brian, right?"

          "Yeah, but—"

"That's why we'll need his help. I'm gonna try to convince Jennifer about something that will make her feel mad of Josh. Brian is someone Jennifer always admires and she'll believe whatever  Brian tells her."

"What? You wanna use Brian in our plan, is it?"

"It will work, believe me. If we ourselves try to convince her, it might never work. But Jennifer will believe whatever Brian tells her, trust me, Amanda. You want them to part or not?"

Amanda did not know what she should do.

I don't wanna use Brian in this. He mustn't be involved in this. This isn't the neatest idea in the world when it comes to separating two people. But... maybe Caitlin's right. This might work...

           Will it work?
