| Chapter Three- Missing Out You got dance class today? Lisa asked, as she caught up to where Mercedes was walking, two weeks later. Of course, Mercedes said. Youd think you take at lease one break from it, today is after all the first day of summer vacation, Lisa pointed out. We are now going to be seniors! Mercedes smiled, shifting her adidas sports bag. And I plan on by this time next year, to be in New York and part of the ABC. ABC this, ABC that, Lisa sighed, Thats all you care about! Is not! Mercedes protested. Oh yes it is! Lisa said. Come on, youre 17 years old and dont even have a permit- Lots of people our age havent gotten their drivers license yet. Youve never been on a date, Lisa continued, Never been kissed. I dont have time for that type of stuff. Girl,Your life revolves around dancing! You dont even relize how much of your youth youre missing out on. Once its gone, its gone. Mercedes sighed. Youre starting to sound like my mom. Can we please talk about something else? Fine, Lisa agreed. She was a little cautious about bringing up the next subject. So, um, how are your parents doing? Mercedes rolled her eyes. My dad is never home and when he is, all they do is argue. So you tell me how theyre doing? Sorry, Lisa said sheepishly. So, do you think theyre going to get a, you know, a divorce? Mercedes whipped her head around, eyes wide. Of course not! They never will. They may fight a lot, but they still love each other! OK, sorry again. Yeah, you should, Mercedes smiled, as they reached the dance studio. Ill talk to you later. OK, bye. |
