Cant Take the Distance

Jenny stared at the phone, almost as if challenging it to ring. She sighed rolling over on
her bed, as it just sat there.

This was what had become of her life. She was 20 years old. She should be out
partying.... Yet here she was waiting for his call, while he was the one out partying.

Jenny rolled back over, glancing at the phone. Finally, she just lunged at the phone,
quickly dialing the numbers engraved in her memory.

Please pick up, Jenny silently pleaded, as she waited for the otherside to be answered.

Hello? a voice finally answered, 10 rings later.

Justin, Jenny said, feeling her heart catch in her throat at the sound of his voice.

Hey baby, Justin said, a smile instantly coming to his face.

Please dont say anything till I finish what Im about to say, Jenny took a deep breathe,
while praying for strength for what she was about to do. I cant take the distance
anymore. I cant take having you in God knows where, while Im here waiting by the
phone for you to call-

Jenn-

Please wait till Im finish, Jenny said, knowing if she let him talk now, she wont get
all on her mind out. Im a college junior. I should be out partying at Frat parties, yet
whenever my friends invite me to go to a party with them, I turn them down, just to come
back to my dorm and hope you call me.... Im sorry, I cant do it anymore. I cant wait
around for you to call, when youre out without a problem in the world.

Jenny paused to collect her thought, Justin took this moment to jump in.

I understand baby, Justin sighed, upset with himself for making her feel this way.
How about I fly you out for this weekend? Besides a concert and a few radio shows, itll
be just us.

You dont get it, Jenny said, tears starting to stream down her face. Its over. Were
over.

Justin felt as if his heart stopped at the sound of those words. Jenny, I know Ive been
selfish, Ill work at changing. Please, just dont give up.

Im sorry Justin, but I need to be a normal college student. I need a break from us.

But Jennifer-

I cant take the distance anymore. I love you, always remember that.... Jenny slowly
pulled the phone from her ear to hang it up. She could hear Justins pleads coming from
it. She quickly rushed to slam it down, disconnecting the line.
