Rose heaved a little as she flung her body up the final step, wobbling lightly as she planted two feet on the fourth floor, muttering under her breath Damn elevator. They better fix that thing. The box in her arms was held awkwardly, and she could feel the bottom slowly tearing open as she tried to move quickly towards the open door of her new apartment. A fewmoresteps She dropped the box heavily onto the plush carpeting that had been spread across the living room, leaning against the doorframe, trying to catch her breath. Ya know, I reallllllly could have used some help with that one Dais.

Daisy sat Indian style in the center of the room, her hand lingering in the air as if to tell Rose not to speak, her mouth pinched into a tiny O shape as she gazed at the baby blue baseball cap in her other hand, obviously plucked from the open box sitting before her. Why did I pack Chris old hat? She glances up at Rose, her face filled with memories.

Rose rolled her eyes in frustration, crossing her arms over her chest, her tone dripping with sarcasm. So that you could ask ridiculous questions like that one when we have about seven more boxes and a refrigerator that still have to be brought up four flights of stairs??

But Rohe used to wear it all the time she whimpers, the familiar dreamy stare capturing her eyes. He looked so gorgeous with it off to the sidejust a little She moved her hand to indicate where the hat once rested on her ex boyfriends head.

Like, Oh my god Daisy I totally remember. And do you remember how he stopped wearing his hat altogether when he met Tina? Cuz she didnt like what it did to his hair? And then he like totally screwed her and left you with she gasps dramatically, nothing but a lousy hat!

Daisys face fell quickly, her mouth twisting into a scowl, tossing the hat into the box as if she had been burned. Fine Ro, I get the point. She crawls to her feet, dusting her hands on the side of her faded low-rise jeans. Lets do this. She bustles past Rose, looking straight ahead.

Rose turns sharply, jogging after her, her hand connecting softly with Daisys shoulder, halting the girl mid-stride. Im sorry, OK? I didnt mean it the way it came out

Daisy turned towards Rose, a small smile playing on her lips. Its alriiiiight. She drug the words out in a forgiving tone, never able to stay angry with Rose for long. Rose had a tendency to speak the first words that came to mind, and after knowing her for as long as she had, Daisy had become accustomed to speedy forgiveness.

Rose stuck her tongue out playfully at her friend before nudging her to continue down the hallway. You think they will fix the elevators soon? she inquired.

I freakin hope so! Daisy returned, frowning slightly. Cuz I really dont wanna climb all these stairs every single day before and after class..and every time we go out..and every time we go to eat.. her voice trailed off, her frown deepening with each scenario.

Roses laugh echoed on the stairwell, her ponytail bouncing a little as she skipped steps, eager to bring up the next load of boxes. After carrying all these boxes up here, I think the rest will be a piece of cake. Rose turned towards Daisy, walking backwards down the stairs, a habit she had acquired in middle school because Daisy always seemed to be a few steps behind. She watched the expression on Daisys face change but before she had a chance to react she felt her back collide with what felt like a wall of human. A loud crash followed and Rose turned just in time to watch the strangers shoulders jerk and the end of the couch slip from his hands, and she stared in horror as it slid down the remainder of the steps, landing with a heavy thud on the other mans foot. Her hand immediately flew to her mouth as the mans face contorted in pain, trying desperately to tug his leg out from under the heavy piece of furniture, a string of obscenities bursting from his lips.

Daisy tumbled down the last few stairs, her hand gripping Roses shoulder tightly, the scene unfolding within a matter of seconds but seemingly in slow motion. Daisy, always the first to speak, let out a high-pitched, Oh God! Are you OK!? Im so sorry! oblivious to the fact that the collision had not at all been her fault. Rose pushed past the man she had bumped into, placing two firm hands on the edge of the couch, and with one strong tug lifted the couch long enough for the other man to slip his foot out before letting it again crash against the landing.

What the FUCK were you doing!? the man snapped angrily, reaching down to rub his tender foot, his face still twisted in anger.

Dude seriously, it was an accident, youre alive arent you? the other man spat at his friend.

Rose stood next to the couch, her gaze drifting from one stranger to another, a look of realization crossing her face. They werent friends. They were brothers. She took in the sight of the wounded one, his hair a dark brown with a solid pink stripe placed slightly off center at the front of his head. Her gaze moved back to the one she had collided with and she blinked at the similarities. A solid backwards navy blue baseball cap, the bill slightly favoring the right side, covered his hair but from what she could tell, he too had the dark chestnut hair as the other. Twins.

Yeah Im alive the wounded one said still obviously bitter but my foot fucking hurts, damn.

Really Im sorry, are you sure your ok? Daisy questioned

Hes fine the baseball cap-wearing stranger assured her as the injured still continued to scowl its not your fault

Daisy just stood with a confused concerned look adorning her face, as Rose chimed in

Well, at least let us help you take the couch up huh? she asked shrugging

Umm, I think youve done enough thanks the one with the pink in his hair spat

The obviously more levelheaded of the two gave him a glance. Wed really appreciate that

So the four of them situated the couch between them & got it to where it needed to be, which was actually not too far down the hall from Daisy & Roses place.

Thanks baseball cap boy said with a small smile

Its the least I could--we could do Rose said dusting her hands motioning her head in Daisys direction as she smiled, nodding.

The angry one had quickly ran off into the bathroom to nurse his sore foot.

Well, we have lots of other stuff to bring up to our place Rose said So we better go

The nameless baseball cap-wearing stranger gave them a nod & the two girls headed out the door & back downstairs to a still relatively box filled car. Rose slipped her hands into her back pockets, surveying the remainder of their belongings still packed tightly into her Jeep. I cant believe it took us less than 24 hours to make enemies she sighed, glancing over at Daisy. Daisys eyes were narrowed as she concentrated on her fingernail, her nose wrinkling slightly. Hello? Rose waved her hand in front of Daisys face, snapping her out of her trance

Huh? Daisys eyes came back into focus and Rose smirked.

I said, I cant believe it took us less than 24 hours to make enemies, Rose repeated.

Daisys expression became worried. You really think they hate us?

Rose shook her head a little. Hate is a strong word, but skunk boy really seemed hostile She sighed lightly. I dont think well be making friends with him anytime soon.

Daisy felt herself frowning as she scooped a box into her hands, Its a shame too, cuz they were both really cute.

Well yeah, Rose countered. They were twins!

Daisys eyes widened as she adjusted the box in her arms, Were they really? I could tell they were brothers but I wasnt sure if they were twins Her smile grew slightly and Rose could have sworn she saw a slight twinkle to her eye. Can you imagine us dating twins Rose? Wouldnt that be wild?!

Rose laughed a little, grabbing herself another box and starting towards the door. I think it would be one of the most ridiculous things in the world. It would be too weird, you and I are totally different when it comes to relationships and besides, arent twins supposed to be really similar to one another?

Daisy followed closely behind Rose, struggling up the stairs. Well they obviously arent Ro, those two boys were as different as night and day.

Rose shrugged a little, letting her mind wander as they climbed the stairs, reaching their room again just in the nick of time. The phone was ringing. Plopping the box down on the couch she shifted her weight through the maze of scattered boxes and plucked the phone from its cradle. Hello? she answered with a confused look. After a moment she replied, Nope. Sorry, wrong number, and replaced the phone on its hook, giving Daisy the eye. The first thing you did was hook up the phone!?

Daisy nodded her head with confidence, Of course. I had to call mama and tell her I was here and I had her relay the message to yours. You know how they getthey wanted the number on the caller ID as soon as possible.

Rose sighed in compliance, rearranging some of the boxes to make more space in the center of the room. Next thing should be the fridge. We have to get that thing up here as soon as possible, she said, always eager to move on with business.
