Northern Territory News headlines
'Body at phone box left for 4 hours'
Even death is casual in Darwin. 'A 43-year old man who died only metres away from a telephone box was left for more than four hours before his body was removed, police said yesterday'. The body was covered only by a blue sheet and left in full view of residents and children.
'Footy great fights heart attack'
Former Richmond Tiger and now Labor Party MLA Maurice Rioli is recovering in Darwin Hospital after suffering a heart attack. He is only 42, the second NT 'young' politician to suffer a heart attack in the past year. Another example of the great lifestyle of the Northern Territory.
'Maria's 'wog' rego plates taken off road.'
We can have the entertainment from 'Wogs Out of Work' and 'Wog Boy' but in the NT the term 'wog' is too offensive to have on a numberplate. Maria Mateus was ordered to surrender her numberplate WOG GRL as it has offended someone (only one complaint was received). She had been using it for four months. I wonder if someone will now complain about the AK47 numberplate on a 4WD dressed up as a mock vigilante army vehicle or many others which 'normal' people might find offensive.
'Worms in Tassie water'
It's not often you hear of Tasmania in the Northern Territory. Usually it is only when Dr Bob Brown wishes to overturn one of the Territory's silly laws. However today's pick of the day comes from the west coast of Tasmania. 'When giant worms started coming out in the tap water on Tasmania's west coast, residents knew their area needed an upgrade. ….The region has been plagued by sewerage and water problems'. The nematomorphs apparently do not pose a risk to health but Queenstown and Rosebery residents were told to boil the water. If there is no risk - why boil the water?
