Northern Territory News headlines

'Footy player 'bared bum' in grand final'

Thank goodness the Queen isn't in the Territory yet. Front and back page today. Waratah's Wayne Worden has been cited by the NTFL tribunal for allegedly baring his buttocks at the crowd during the grand final. Worden has branded the report as a 'joke' and explained his actions 'I was just pulling the jocks out of my bum - that's all I was doing'.

'Baby born on patrol boat'

Two Navy officers help an illegal immigrant give birth on the galley table of a patrol boat yesterday. The lady was from Afghanistan. Does this mean the youngster is Australian?

'Ringing phone spurs lion lunge'

'A man trying to retrieve his cell phone from a lion's cage was attacked when the phone started ringing, prompting the animal to lunge'. The lion, from a central Mexican Zoo, was obviously doing what most of us would have done in the same circumstance. The man was only injured in the abdomen and was released from hospital.

'Fines bungle: ratepayers to pay'

Another stunning example of the quality of government in the Territory. 'A decision by Darwin City Council not to seek payment for about 1750 infringement notices will cost ratepayers more than $150,000. The action followed a Supreme Court judgement last year that part of council's by-law infringement notice was invalid.' Council blamed NT Government drafting people for the error.

'Flood forces 3rd evacuation'

Beswick residents can't take a trick, being evacuated for the third time this year due to floodwaters. Not that it is surprising living next to a river in the tropical north. The dangers of Ross River virus and meliodosis have the locals worried.

And what article doesn't have a headline today

'Hopefully, the fella inside this suit isn't called Richard Cranium. But when he has the suit on, he's called Penisaurus and he's the mascot for the four-day Sydney Sexpo which began yesterday'. And in case you haven't seen a Penisaurus in the British Museum there is a large enough picture on page 9.
