Northern Territory News headlines

'Uranium mine leak in Kakadu'

'Radioactive material from an abandoned uranium and gold mine in Kakadu National Park has been found alongside a tourist road in the area. And there were claims in Canberra last night that tailings had been washed into the South Alligator River, posing serious health risks to local communities'. In order to avoid the nasty effects rangers from Parks Australia North have been advised to keep their air-conditioners in their cars going and keep the windows up. A clean-up of the site has been ordered for this dry-season.

'Collins, Tambling join list for NT's top job'

Just a couple days after an article about the CLP seeking new candidates for the next Territory election, the Chief Minister has reportedly said the former Territory Senator Bob Collins and serving Senator Grant Tambling are possible contenders for the Administrator's position. Without being cynical it is just possible that the CLP and the Federal Liberal Party are seeking to ditch Mr Tambling from the Senate into a ceremonial position?

'Brrr, big chill to stay'

Strewth, its still bloody cold up here in Darwin and the weather bureau is saying that the cool temperatrues are likely to linger until next week. The outlook for Darwin today is 27C with a minimum of 16C.

'Elvis' cook dies, aged 78'

Why wasn’t this on page 1 instead of page 3. 'The cook who fed Elvis Presley fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches, meatloaf and caramel cakes has died, the New York Times said yesterday. She said before her death 'He said the only thing in life he got any enjoyment out of was eating' and that everything he ate had to float in butter. Where will he get his food now?

'Should Palmerston be a city?. Have your say'

Palmerston residents are to be consulted over a plan for the town to officially become a city. Like anyone cares what it is called - I can assure you that no-one calls it Palmerston now.
