Northern Territory News headlines
'Carjack kids' ride of terror'
A 15-16 year old intoxicated youth stole a car with two toddlers in it from a service station yesterday. The two kids reportedly had a 'terrifying' 30-minute trip. The kids woke up when the car smashed onto a curb at about 1am.
And you thought the flood crisis was over
'Waiting game as Top End rivers rise'
Despite yesterday's ABC internet news showing Daly River resident's relief at the passing of the flood peak, the NT News continues to plug the line of impending doom as follows - 'Residents of Daly River and other remote Top End communities face a nail-biting wait before they know if rising floodwaters will force them to evacuate their homes'. Time will tell which representation was more accurate.
'Cyclone's rare hat-trick'
Cyclone Steve has re-formed for a third time, intensifying as it moved along the Western Australian coast. The paper reports 'The birth of Steve for the third time is something forecasters have not seen before'. However other media has reported it is the first cyclone in Australia to be formed three times since 1973. This provides a clue as to why weather forecasters are often wrong - they have no respect for history.
'Lake closed after rains'
Another annoying feature of the Top End wet is high levels of nasty bacteria in popular croc-free swimming pools. This time Lake Alexander in Darwin has been closed indefinitely following the recent rain.
Vomit candidate of the year
'Sam goes starkers for art'
Artists are a desperate and hardy lot. It is the only possible thing that can explain Kody Zhansui wishing to paint a nude Sam Newman in an attempt to claim the Archibald Prize. Perhaps it could spark a new round of awards to match the Bogeys, Worst Dressed etc etc.
