The Societa Aeronautica Italiana was incorporated into the Ambrosini group in 1934 .Since that time a long series of touring and training aircraft have been designed and built. The company first post-war type was the S.1001 GRIFO four seat touring and training monoplane. This was followed by the two seat primary trainer development of the GRIFO known as the S.1002 TRASIMENUS. Both these aircraft will be fully describe  later. The latest and more important product of the company is the S.7 military trainer witch may be equipped as either as single seat or two seat. This aircraft which has been ordered in a small series by the ITALIAN AIR FORCE, is described hereafter. From the S.7has been evolved the slightly and more powerful SUPER S.7.This aircraft is described hereunder.


Angelo Ambrosini was born at Desenzano al Serio BG Italy on May 5, 1891. In 1910 he earns his license as airplane pilot and during the war in Libya is enrolled as a motor technician with first group of Italian aviators: he carries out special jobs at the Supreme Headquarters of Airfoirce. His name is tied to the invention of the " Ambrosini Silencer " a silencer which used the pressure from exhaust gasses to lower the noise of motors. this machine was used to carry out surprise bombing, as well as transporting intelligence officers in the areas occupied by the enemy. having left military services in 1924, he buys an aeronautical repair shop near Passignano sul Trasimeno from which SAI Inc. was Born. the Italian Aeronautical Company. Among the most glorious moments of his career as builder the S 2 can be remember, the SAI 7 and Grifo. In 1952 he builds the Sagittarius, based on a project by Sergio Stefanutti. He died in Milan on April 15, 1980

Angelo Ambrosini


Sergio Stefanutti was born in Udine on September 27, 1906. He earns his degree in industrial mechanical engineering at University of Padua in 1929 and in Aeronautical Engineering in Roma in 1931. In the same year he enters in the Royal Air force as Officer of the Engineering Corps and assigned to the construction of Ministry of the Airforces. He designs a monoclinal plane called SS 2 with Gianni Caproni is also interested in, but the work at Ministry makes him collaborate with a company which is closer to Rome, the SAI of Angelo Ambrosini of Passignano sul Trasimeno, with which he realizes a SAI 7, a tourism plane. After the outbreak of the Second World War he was assigned to the Chief of Staff, were he designs the modifications for the Macchi MC 200and a new wing for S. 79. A commission presided the testing of the Campini Caproni CC2 . From the SAI 7 other realizations come trough, the SAI 107, SAI 207 and SAI 403. In 1942 he collaborates in the project for airplanes which were commanded by radio transmitters, but  the experiments does not have the desired success. At the end of 1944 he oversees the transformations of  FIAT G. 55 . After the end of war, having left active service in the Airfoirce, he continues to collaborate with Angelo Ambrosini, realizing amongst other a motor plane for training purposes, the S. 7 which had success in the sports environments. He studied, designed  and realized  jet planes , amongst which to be remembered is the Sagittarius 2 , and the twin reactor fighter plane Ariete. In 1959 he resumed services in the Engineering Corps with the grade of Colonel and was assigned to the Center of Consultation for Research and Studies. In those years he designed the Ce. Co2 a four engine convertiplane
