| These activities are inteded for the beginning-high to low-intermediate level, adult ESL students. The Students attend intensive English as a Second Language class in the American Langauge Program at a California State Unversity. The class consists of 20 multi-cultural students ages ranging from 18 to 25 years. The computer classroom has 5 stations with 4 computers at each station; similar to the ideal computer classroom. The students will have enough desk spaces in addition to the computers for group work. | ||||||||||||||||
| Objectives: By the end of this unit, students will be able to: 1. Share with a classmate about their experiences about the countries they have visited. 2. Use the simple past and the present perfect tense in their speaking or writing. 3. Students will be able to check ticket prices online. 4. Students will be able to make a phone call to a friend using everyday conversations, and/or speak with an operator to reserve show tickets. 5. Stduents will be able to create personalized postcard with the aid of computer. 6. Students will be able to write a postcard. |

| Warm Up Activities Students get into pairs to look at pictures of different countries at http://www.geocities.com/fhn532/pictures.html . They will discuss which country/ies they have visited and put a check in the box provided. |

| Practice Activities Students will learn simple past and present perfect tenses. Following the example provided, students will report to the class about their classmates. Then students will go into the next grammar activity in which they will change the past participle form of the give verbs into infinitive and vice versa. In the Test Yourself activity, students will be abel to take an informal assessment at Http://www.quia.com/cz/4951.html in a form of a cloze test practicing the two tenses they have learned. This cloze test is called A Sad Story of a Sad Man. Students will be coached to surf the given internet address and check out flight prices to New York. Http://yahootravel.com Students will able to practice the new vocabularies through the hangman activity. Http://www.quia.com/hm/84447.html Students will first listen to two dialogues and then read the dialogues once before taking a true/false test. The first dialogue is an informal conversation between two friends. The second dialogue is a formal conversation between a female and an operator at a ticket office. |

| Production Students will link to Http://www.groupboard.com to make their personalized postcard. The teacher will explain the different tools and functions available on groupboard and guide the students step by step to show them how to create a postcard. Students can print their postcard after they creat it. Students will be presented with a sample postcard which shows them where to write their names, address, and their message. | Follow-up stage Students will undergo an out- of -class writing assigment in which they will write 1-2 paragraphs describing their memorable trip. They will hand in their assignment to be graded by the teacher.. |
