Fumi's Bicycling Exploits

4/28/00

It's been a long time since I wrote here last... I've been pretty busy, and I've finally migrated my webpage off of the lab computer... Ironically, back to Geocities, where I started... weird.

I've done four Seward Park races so far, with dismal results. I think I was in better shape last year. Maybe I was in similar shape as last year at this time, though... I think I should have rode more during the winter. I feel like I'm playing catch-up with the rest of the guys.

On a brighter note, I replaced my old handlebar and seatpost with newer one's I bought from a mail order shop. I replaced my original TTT Forma handlebar with TTT Prima 220 handlebars. Not only are they lighter, but I decided on getting wider handlebars. They definitely feel better, and I think my shoulders don't hurt as much as they used to. I replaced the original, heavy seatpost with an American Classic aluminum seatpost. For the price, they are very light. To get any lighter, I would have to spend twice as much money.

Now that I think about it, a few weeks before the handlebar/seatpost swap (which happened about a week ago), I went and replaced the original Campy Mirage 170mm cranks with a used Campy Mirage 172.5mm cranks. I found them at Recycled Cycles. The longer cranks definitely feel better, although I'm going to have to get used to spinning the longer cranks.

So, even though the bike feels a lot better, and should be lighter, I'm still not going much faster. I guess I have to keep training.
