Been a bit busy, so haven't written much again. The weather is warming up, but it's getting rainy too. I was feeling pretty strong after the second Tour de Dung race, but right before the second race, I got really sick, and I was sick for around 8 days, so I missed the third race as well. I didn't ride at all that week, and rode very little the following week. I did go to a few track training sessions, and those were fun, but I think I strained something in my right leg during the track sessions.
Last Sunday was the first team ride I had been on for a while. Quite a few people showed up: Don Wells, Ken, Jesse, Laura, Dave, Tony and Matt, I think. Don Perry and Mike Petty were supposed to show up, but they never did. I wonder if they left earlier...
The plan was to go north into Snohomish to scout out the race course for this coming Sunday. So right off the bat, we had to go up some hills to get to Snohomish. The weather was very overcast when we started, and pretty soon, it was alternating between misty and drizzly. Some of us had fenders. I didn't...
I thought we weren't going so fast, because I was able to keep up really well. It may have been the 4 pounds or so I lost the week I was really sick. I think the rest and the weight loss really helped my hill climbing. As a matter of fact, the whole 2.5 hour ride in the rain up pretty hilly terrain was pretty easy for me. I was able to climb pretty well, keeping up with Jesse on many of the hills, and at the end when Jesse and Don started to sprint on the flats, I was almost able to keep up with them too.
As it turned out, we didn't get to the race course, because it was raining pretty hard by the time we got out there. We probably wouldn't have seen much of the course anyways, since the visibility was pretty crappy due to the rain.
Sunday's race is only 33 miles long, and probably pretty hilly. I'm looking forward to it, however.
