Didn't do much riding recently. Kind of busy at school, and the weather has been bad. I'm still commuting 4 times a week, and I was trying to go to the IMA and lift weights twice a week, but I only went once this week. I did do a bike ride of about 2 hours yesterday, with Jessica, a fellow grad student in my lab. It wasn't a super fast ride, but I need all the extra mileage I can fit in.
There's another team meeting next Monday. Hopefully lot's of the team members will show up this time.
Yesterday, I went to Recycled Cycles and bought a used set of brake levers to replace the ones on my junky French commuter bike. The bike came with the kind of brake lever with the 'safety' lever attachment, which allows you to pull the brakes while your hands are on the top flat part of the handlebar. Only it's not very good, and doesn't do a very good job of pulling the brakes. Besides, I was getting into the bad habit of using this, and when I rode my other bike, I was trying to grab the brake lever where it didn't exist. And the left and right brake levers didn't match to boot. One was Dia-Compe, the other was Weinmann. I thought Weinmann was German, but the brake lever said 'JAPAN' on them...
For five dollars, I got a really neat pair of Modolo 'Speedy' levers. Their really neat, but they don't have any sort of cushioning on the hoods. But neither did the ones that this replaced, and I always wear thick gloves while commuting anyways.
Now maybe I'll go buy those Modolo brake calipers I saw at the store...
