I had a pretty good cycling work week. Probably because I stayed home a lot working on my qualifying exam instead of going to lab.
On Tuesday, after working on my exam, I decided to go for a ride, especially since it wasgood weather. The TV weathermen said it was going to be wet all week, so I decided to take the dry day when I could. Turned out it didn't rain all week.
Usually, I ride pretty flat areas. But last weekend's ride up some hills was fine, so I decided to go up Juanita Drive. Going southeast, it's a fairly steep and long climb, followed by a long winding downhill. I went up and over, and I wasn't tired at all, unlike when I first started riding. I went up and over the otherway, and enjoyed it so much, I went back and forth again. I pretty much stayed in the saddle instead of standing up on the pedals. I think I keep my heart rate lower that way.
Yesterday was another Seward Crit. Pretty good turnout. I rode in from home, which is about 20 miles. It took me about an hour and 20 minutes. I was taking it easy so I wouldn't be tired for the race. I decided to stay in the saddle as much as I can, and try to draft as much as I can. I think I did okay. I didn't get dropped from the pack until the 10th lap or so, and I only got lapped once. And I think the whole field did not lap me, just the lead pack. I think in a few weeks, I won't be lapped, if I can find someone to sit in with.
After the race, I stayed and talked with Phillip, a 16yr old junior racer. He also just started racing, and he also has a Bianchi.
