4/25/97 This is my first entry. This EZ editor sure isn't as easy to use as it looks. Not very EZ to use.
Today is Friday, and my father and grandmother are in town, so I probably won't get much riding in today, or tomorrow, for that matter. Yesterday was my third entry in the Seward Park Thursday Night Criterium series. Once again, I came in last for the people who at least kept going around until the leaders finished. I think it would be more fun if more slower people stayed in the race.
I don't feel too bad about coming in last, since everyone else probably has been racing lot longer than me. Probably been riding seriously a lot longer than me also. I am sure I keep doing better each week.
A few more things about myself. My name is Fumitaka Hayashi, and I am
a graduate student in Seattle. I'm in a PhD. program for Immunology at
the University of Washington. I'm a member of the Aurora
Cycling Club (ACC). It's a new racing club, and it's main goal was
to foster junior and women riders. I am neither of those, but the people
are pretty friendly. There's a couple fast guys on our team. I think I
may be the slowest one that actually races. But compared to how I was when
I first joined the team, I'm a whole lot better.
Some info about my bike:
1995 Bianchi Campione d'Italia 55cm in Celeste Blue (or is it green?)
I either run my cheapo Ambrosio rim and Mirage hub clincher wheels that came with the bike, or the nicer Mavic Cosmic Expert clincher wheels (much quieter, and a lot more aero). I'm not sure if the nicer wheels are all that much lighter, though.
The only things I have changed are the handlebar tape (it's black now), pedals (I have discontinued plastic one's from Performance(This picture was taken later, when I changed to Look PP136 pedals)), and the brake pads. I switched to Mathauser brake pads, which are supposed to be much nicer pads, but I think they are made for brakes with more room between the calipers and the rims. I had to adjust them to open up quite wide to fit them in. I like them because they don't have notches in the brake block that can catch pebbles and scratch up the rims (like what happened to my cheapo rims).
