Intermediate Night Elf Strategyv1.04After the Huntress was nerfed in the 1.04 patch, Night Elf players were left with their "bread and butter" strategy (mass Huntresses) basically useless against even average players. It used to be that anyone who went mass Hunts automatically got a win, now Night Elf players actually have to play in order to win. This strategy should give you a strong army that will be able to seriously contend with any above average player. Build Order: 1-3 wisp to Gold
-(Continue building wisps (Rally to Wood) until you get to 16 supply) -Choose Demon Hunter as your hero. Skill points as follows:
-Upgrade to Tree of Ages
Continue to upgrade your attack and armor at both the Hunter's Hall... and Ancients of War after you Upgrade to Tree of Eternity. How to Execute: Watch your Upkeep. Don't go into Low Upkeep until you've both secured an expansion AND begun mining it. If the enemy's base defenses aren't very strong, then don't worry about upkeep and go straight to 90 supply. If you feel that the enemy is well defended, only go to 70 supply and grab a second expansion before going to 90 supply. Throw up an Ancient Protector or two at your expansion(s). You're going air before ground, which is something that many players don't do, and some players won't be able to compensate. If the enemy is going for Knights, Aboms, or even Bloodlusted Taurens, you've got it made, as they can't hurt your main army, and will take damage from the air, as they chase your Demon Hunter in circles. You need to be careful of your hero. Use Immolation whenever you can, but don't let his health get too low. Because your Demon Hunter will be your only ground troop for a while, he'll be specially targeted by melee only troops. You want to have about 6-8 HippoRiders before you start getting Huntresses, and then maintain at least a 1-1 ration of HippoRiders to Hunts. Remember that HippoRiders are great for sneaking behind a base, and taking out peons, or even an Altar. Don't forget that fact, as winning economy is almost a guaranteed "GG". You've got several options on how to play...you can try to contain the enemy, by scouting with HippoRiders, you can try to frontal assault the enemy's base (doesn't work too well if they have mass towers), you can draw his army to his main base with your HippoRiders attacking the rear of his main base, and then attack his expo with your ground army (be sure to fly the Hippo Riders away after he's wasted a Town Portal Scroll), or you can just creep until you get to level 6. Once you get Metamorphosis, you should be ready to decimate the enemy's army and base. Don't forget to use your Moon Wells. You built a lot of Moon Wells to heal your large army quickly. This will allow you to Creep faster, and face the enemy's army more often. You shouldn't lose very many units if any. Just remember that Moon Wells only refill at night, so the best time to heal is at the beginning of the night, so they're full again by morning and will last you through the day. If the enemy's army is managing to defeat yours, mix in some Druid of the Talons with Cyclone. Cyclone makes EVERYTHING easier. Example Replay: here
