Unlike Yuna and Rikku, Paine is the only playable character who did not appear in FFX. She joined the Gullwings for reasons unknown to Yuna, where she met her two new friends. She's a mysterious person with an enigmatic past. Few know who she is or where she came from. Supposedly, she was orphaned when very young and as a result, she is very cold and reclusive. Few people are let past her metaphorical wall and get the know the real Paine. Since the other two characters are so fun-loving and energetic, they had to add a counterpart to them. If it weren't for her, Yuna and Rikku would never get anything done because they goof off so much.
