He was shocked too see her pregnant. He had not seen her since that night she passed out. He called her during that time hoping to rekindle their relationship but she told him no. He never told her that he had made love to her that night when she was out cold. He was too ashamed to tell her. Seeing her pregnant he realized she had someone else in her life. The child couldn't be his. He and Catherine had found out early in their relationship that he was sterile. So he felt no need to mention the incident. They ate dinner and he left.
