Having It All Chapter 3c

Catherine put her cup back on the saucer then rose and started to pace. How do you know anything about me have you ever asked?

Father was a bit taken back by her outburst. I dont have to ask, Ive known your type since I arrived in New York. He shook his head. Do gooders who always want to help out the less fortunate until you get bored again and move on to something else. Then he looked up at her. I will not let my son be used and thrown away like that!

Catherine turned and stared at him. I would never do that I love that man more than Ive ever loved anyone in my entire life!

Father looked down a moment to collect his thoughts then looked at her again. You and I both know that all this relationship is to you is a momentary situation.

Catherine took a deep breath to calm herself down. You can think what you want.

Father looked up at her again. You know Miss Chandler, the worst thing Vincent ever did was bring you to our world the night he found you in the park, he wouldve been better off if he had just left you where he found you.

Catherine stared at him for a moment not certain that she had heard correctly. She opened her mouth to respond when Vincent and Mary burst into the chamber.

Vincent slammed his hand down on the table upsetting Catherines discarded teacup. How dare you say something like that to the woman I love!

Mary looked at the tunnel elder angrily but did not respond. Instead she turned and approached Catherine. Are you all right?

Catherine shook her head as her chin began to tremble.  She looked at Vincent and Father who were staring angrily at one another. She could not stay there any longer. She had to get away. Without a word she turned and raced out of the chamber in the direction of her brownstone.

Vincent watched her leave and moved toward the tunnel entrance. Catherine wait please!  As he mounted the steps he looked back at Father. Thats it old man, youve just lost your other son!

He looked at Mary. Would you have my things moved above?

Mary nodded sadly. Of course Ill take care of everything, you just go see to Catherine.

Vincent looked at Father again. Ill be coming below everyday to do my duties but I will have nothing to do with you until you come to your senses! With that he raced out of the chamber to find Catherine.

After he had left Mary turned to Father. You brought that all on yourself!

Father held up his hand. Mary, please not now.

She could hear the pain in his voice. It hurts when your child tells you he wants nothing more to do with you doesnt it?

Father looked up at her. What was I supposed to do let her break his heart?

Mary shook her head. As I have told you time and again he is a grown man and youre going to have to accept that he has a new life.

With that she walked to the steps. I just hope in time you can make things right with them because of your misguided opinions. She then walked briskly out of the chamber.

Catherine reached the entrance to her brownstone and sagged to the ground. She was breathless and devastated. She could not believe the last statement that Father had made. Could he possible know how it had hurt her? She looked up when she heard someone running toward her. She was not surprised to see Vincent rounding the corner. Catherine! He cried out when he saw her lying on the sandy tunnel floor.

Falling to his knees he pulled her into his arms. She wrapped her arms around his neck and let the tears fall. How could he say something like that?

Vincent tightened his arms around her and rocked her as if she were one of the smaller children. Hes a fool.

Catherine lifted her head and looked at him. Please Vincent, dont say that hes your father.

Vincent tightened his arms around her. Yes he is and I love him for saving my life and loving me as I grew up but hes going to have to realize that youre my life now.

Catherine sighed and shook her head against his shoulder. Maybe if Id never come into your life you wouldnt be going through this pain right now.

Vincent placed his finger over her lips. If youd never come into my life I would never have known the type of love that we share.  My life wouldve continued in the darkness that it was in before. With that he bent his head and kissed her tenderly. Youre the light of my soul and Im thankful everyday that I found you.

Catherine smiled when she was calm again. I think we should get up.

Vincent chuckled at the teasing tone in her voice. As you wish. Then without a word he stood lifting her effortlessly into his arms. Lets go home.

Catherine laid her head against his shoulder. What about your things?

Vincent shook his head. Mary is having them brought to the house. He then turned and walked up the small steps. He stopped for a moment letting Catherine unlock the secret door.

She looked at him when she was done. Lets go.

Vincent nodded. Yes lets go. He carried her into the house. Once they were in the basement he put her down on her feet and closed the secret door.

As she started to move toward the foyer door Vincent once again swept her into his arms. Youre going to spoil me if you keep doing that.

He chuckled as he stepped into the foyer. Im going to spoil you for the rest of our lives. Catherine pushed the basement door closed with one and then put it back around s neck. He stood there for a moment holding her then kissed her tenderly. Youre so beautiful.

She laid her head against his heart. So are you. Vincent then turned and carried her upstairs to their bedroom where they made love once again pledging themselves to one another. Neither caring what anyone thought about their decision.
