NEW HAVEN - The week 17 New Haven Ghetto Thugs New York Mets Underachiever of the Week Award was presented to wide receiver Derrick Mason by Mets closer Armando Benitez, who declared this season officially closed. Mason contributed nothing as the G-Thugs beat Urlacher and Friends 135-126. The win was New Haven's 5th in 6 weeks as they finished the season in 5th place. The win secures the rights to the first pick in next season's draft. The strong finish to the season has made the G-Thugs a hot commodity in the "teams looking for a new city" market, especially in the south. Team officials won't comment formally, but possible destinations for the Ghetto Thugs have been rumored to include Snipesville, Georgia, Dixons Mills, Alabama, Cooks Hammock, Florida, Choctaw Helm, Mississippi, and Honea Path, South Carolina. Coach Stanley, did however announce that Darrell Jackson was the winner of the Underachiever of the Season Award at this afternoon's press conference. Despite being on the Ghetto Thugs' roster for all 17 weeks, Darrell Jackson only contributed a total of 58 points all season. Although Jackson was part of a 6-way tie among weekly underachievers, his disappointing performance all season earned him the distinction of the Underachiever of the Season. Stanley also announced that the Team MVP was Rich Gannon for his consistent kick-ass performances week after week. Gannon has also been nominated for the League MVP award.
