NEW HAVEN - The week 15 New Haven Ghetto Thugs New York Mets Underachiever of the Week Award was presented to wide receiver Jerry Rice by Mets pitcher Mike Stanton. Rice contributed 3 points with 30 yards. The week was, however, a highlight of the Ghetto Thugs' season. The week 15 win was New Haven's 3rd in the past 4 weeks, placing the Thugs in a more respectable 5th place with a 5-10 record. The recent streak, although too late to have any real impact on the league, does come at a good time as the G-Thugs face the Diablos Con Charcol next week in the first round of the consolation playoffs. Coach Stanley held a press conference for the first time since announcing the team's move at the end of the season, two weeks ago. Apart from pointing out that Rice's 3-point contribution is the largest ever by an Underachiever Award winner, he also added, "I know it's too little too late, but it feels good to win. Maybe this will carry over into next season." Stanley was asked who else would carry over into next season, but as usual, he offered no comment.
