NEW HAVEN - The week 12 New Haven Ghetto Thugs New York Mets Underachiever of the Week Award was presented to kicker Ryan Longwell by Mets outfielder Roger Cedeno. Longwell contributed a measly 1 point with his 1 PAT in the Ghetto Thugs upset of the Compton Irishmen. Like the other G-Thugs fans, Cedeno apparently celebrated the victory with a cocktail or two (http://espn.go.com/mlb/news/2002/1126/1467309.html). The win puts the G-Thugs in a 3-way tie for last place and caused Coach Stanley to lash out at New Haven Register reporter Joe Morelli who suggested last week that the G-Thugs were losing on purpose, calling him, among other things, a "stupid bastard" and "incompetent jackass." Morelli's column was missing from this afternoon's paper. Despite the win, the Ghetto Thug's celebration was short lived, as the UJB's Fightin' J.B.s also won, thus officially eliminating New Haven from the playoffs. Under league rules, the elimination of the G-Thugs allows the team to move forward with official plans for next season, such as their announcing their home city. Coach Stanley, however, elected not to take away from the win for New Haven, and instead hold off any announcements about the team's future, "Let's just enjoy this win. This team hasn't had too many of them, and I'm sure we'll be back to our loosing ways next week."
