New Haven Traffic Cones coach Jeff Stanley announced the team's week 3 lineup this morning. The only surprise this week is that it took this long for the team to implement its all-closer rotation. Despite the wussiness of Rob Nen and Mariano Rivera, who continue to cry about their aches and pains, the Cones have been successful with Mike MacDougal and hope the same from newcomers Scott Williamson and Danys Baez. Also staying with tradition, the Cones have picked up another catcher. Mike Matheny is the third different catcher to start for the Cones in as many weeks. As many have surmised from Stanley's only catcher in the draft coming from his last overall pick, catching is a low priority for the Cones and you can expect to see a variety of players behind the plate for them this season. If fact, rumor has it, both Tony Pena and Gary Carter have contacted Cones management about possible comebacks. Stanley would not comment on such a development. The final new Cone this week is third baseman Met Ty Wiggenton, who has been playing better lately than the Mets' former starter at that position, Edgardo Alfonso, who finds himself on the bench. "Edgardo has been slacking off lately. It's too early in the season for him to be taking days off, and that's not the kind of player we want starting for this team. If he wants the third base spot, he's going to have to suck it up and show it to me. Ty, on the other hand has been very impressive thus far this season and I think he's shown he deserves the starting role," Stanley said. After hearing the news, Alfonso was seen crying in the clubhouse. The complete week 3 lineup is as follows: C - Mike Matheny - Can he break the 1-week streak for Cones catchers? 1B - Rafael Palmeiro - Another solid week for the franchise player 2B - Jeff Kent - Trade proposals for him continue to be denied 3B - Ty Wiggenton - Can the newcomer continue to produce as a Cone?
