| Key Club History In 1925 several high school students in Sacramento, California decided to form the world's first Key Club. At this time, the word "key" was selected to describe the club as part of the phrase, " Key people in the community." Over time, however, the word key has come to be known as an acronym for "Kiwanis Educates Youth." Key Club continued to grow under the guidance of Kiwanis Clubs all over the country, until eventually the loose individual clubs banded together as an international organization. Holding their first international convention in Florida, these clubs adopted international bylaws and other procedures which continue to be followed and modified to this day. There are currently approx. 240,000 members in our organization in dozens of countries around the world. Key Club Pledge I pledge on my honor to uphold the Objects of Key Club International; To build my home, school, and community; To serve my nation and god; And to combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions. Key Club Motto "Caring - Our Way of Life" Key Club Mission Statement "Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to perform service, build character, and develop leadership."
