I remember back in the day,
When we did not lock our doors
at night,
Kids could play without fear,
never wondering what evil was lurking near.

Looking back it wasn't so bad.
The television was a treat to watch.
My neighbor owned the store we all went to.
We had Black doctors and dentist, right in the hood.
Ownership of Black Business was booming.everywhere.
Mom and Dad, teachers and preachers
ruled the things we learned.

The Legacy that was left is not a passing dream.
We must use the system of old
that teaches us to  tell our story again and again
of who and what made it happen in our Black Neighborhoods.
