September 4, 2004 Bulldogs blank Eagles By Roger Glynn Christian Ducre rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns to lead Fontainebleau to a 28-0 victory over Warren Easton in a non-district game at Fontainebleau. The Bulldogs (1-0) jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead, outgaining the Eagles 210 yards to 79 in the first half. "I'm very disappointed in the way we played in the second half," Fontainebleau coach Larry Favre said. "They took it right at us. With our schedule, it gets harder from here." Warren Easton (0-1) outgained the Bulldogs 121 yards to 27 in the second half. After fumbling on their first two possessions, the Bulldogs took a 7-0 lead on a 16-yard run by Ducre and the first of Justin Beitzel's four extra points. The 34-yard touchdown drive was setup by a punt block by Tim Grzych. Fontainebleau recovered an ensuing onsides kick, and five plays later, Steven Korte scored on a 5-yard run. The extra point gave the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead with 2:47 remaining in the first quarter. The Eagles drove to the Bulldog 10, but a fourth-down passing play was not successful. "We had some mistakes and dropped balls that really cost us in the first half," Warren Easton coach Lee Green said. "But I'm happy with the way we played in the second half." The Bulldogs then drove 90 yards in nine plays, and Beitzel scored on a 3-yard run for a 21-0 lead with 3:00 remaining in the half. On the Eagles' next possession, Grzych blocked his second punt, and Fontainebleau took over on Warren Easton's 8-yard line. Three plays later, Ducre scored on a two-yard run to make it 28-0. Korte had 49 yards rushing on four carries but left the game midway through the second quarter. The Bulldogs gained 187 yards rushing in the first half but were held to 27 in the second half. Benoit Tolbert led the Eagles with 53 yards rushing on 17 carries, and Warren Matthews completed 11 of 29 passes for 102 yards. |
