Folks,
This
past Saturday while in Bisbee, Arizona we came across an interesting
anomaly. There is a guy there named
Greg Pike who recently moved to Arizona from Colorado and now walks his dog
around the old mining town on a regular basis. This in itself is not necessarily of great interest except for
the fact that his dog Booger, who is on a leash, has a cat named Kitty who
rides and rests on Booger's back without a leash. To top that off there are three mice (nameless) who sit on the
cat unrestrained and sometimes wander off the cat onto the dog below the cat.
Wile
walking down the street this "animal group" stays in tact without
trying to jump ship or show any disharmony.
In my opinion that is a tough act to top in the world of getting along
with others when naturally programmed to be predators. In itself it is surely a lesson for the most
advanced of the animal world, the homo sapien.

The third is out of view.

the non-match of the red auburn mousy mouse to the silver fox shade on my
head. He also came down to my hand and started
nipping on the side of one of my nails and then let out a long stream of pee in
glee.)

Finally
here is an excerpt from one of the news stories in regards to Greg and his
animals:
Greg
Pike is the animal man. He lives out west, and sometimes he travels in a
beat-up pick-up camper, going from town to town showing off his pets and
supporting himself by selling pictures taken with them. "Animals are
simple. It's people that are complicated." That's what he tells people.
"I needed to put something together that would teach people that nothing's
impossible and that we can all get along," is the way he tells it. His
menagerie includes Booger, an 85 pound dog that is part Rottweiler, part Lab.
Riding frequently on Booger's back is Kitty, a 14 pound cat. On Kitty's back
are two white mice, Mousey and Spot. Besides showing off his pets, Pike runs an
animal shelter in Taos, New Mexico, called The Peaceable Kingdom. The way he
tells it, Kitty was raised around mice and has never tried to eat them. Kitty
learned to sit on Booger when she was just three weeks old and preferred his
warm body to the cold and wet snow. Mice like their own smell, so Pike put
Kitty's harness in their cages so they would learn to like her smell. And now
they travel together in harmony, oblivious to the rules of the food chain. Pike
hopes his animals will inspire people and teach the world to get along2. Could
we learn as much? Come, Lord Jesus, come! Bring your peace on earth!
