About Us

The Ferry Riders began sometime between 1995 and 1996, in conversations between Jim O. and Jim Kirk.  Jim O. had tried unsuccessfully to get a bike club going in Calgary, but everyone seemed cemented to their couches there.  So we decided to try it here.  First we put up some posters and talked to friends who we knew liked to motorcycle.  Soon we had a small group of three or four bikers and we were having a great time.  Since, we have grown to include almost 20 men.

The Ferry Riders began as a non-hierarchical and dues-free riding group and seeks to remain that way.  We want the focus to stay on comaraderie and fun.  There is a core group of guys who do the main planning, but these are all run by the group at our runs and meetings.  We seem to reach concensus quite easily, or at least reach a majority opinion.  It works.

The club encourages gay men who love motorcycling to ride with us.  Most riders in the group have considerable riding experience, but this hasn't always been the case.  We always have room for less experienced riders and do not ask anyone to ride beyond their ability. The Ferry Riders follow BC Safety Council guidelines for group riding style.  We are an all makes and models club; ride whatever rocks your world as long as it's highway capable and in safe operating condition.!

Besides our regular Sunday rides throughout the warm months (approximately April - October), we schedule one or two camping trips further afield per season, and have social funcions throughout the year. These include season-start and season-end socials and a Christmas party.  Motorcycles and Men make for great conversation no matter what the time of year, or the weather.
