| "Very Late" A/N: This was a poem done in class. It was supposed to be from our perspective, but I decided to let my alter-ego Frodo do the work. Suffice to say, it sounds like it's from the POV of the Gaffer. The day is almost over, The shouts and laughs and jests. Suddenly, the noises stop And the sun sets in the west. The little children go back home, A brand new day in store, Yet no one seems to notice I'm awake outside my door. I sigh and look up to the sky. The stars are now awake. They'll be up for hours more To see a new dawn break. I stand up, looking to the west, The leaves beneath my feet. I kiss the stars goodnight once more, For a new day I must greet. The darkness creeps along the road Just like the race of men. I'll bid farewell to the moon above; I shall see the sun again. "Windy Nights" A/N: This I had to do in class as well. It contains a hidden message some might know. Caroline, Kat, Dharna: That means you!!!!! Night-time has come: I can sit in the dark And watch the moon wax. On the col, hardened soil, I can sit and relax. As the wind whispers, "It's the night." In the gloom, I can run Through The cold, winter air, And the wind whips around me Like a quick, silent hare. As the wind whispers, "It's the night." Soon the dark will turn frigid. It is no longer shy, For I can hear blaring trumpets In the air's mournful cry. I can now go to sleep In a dream, sound and deep, And the wins will still whisper, "It's the night." "White-I Don't Care if it Isn't a Real Color!" A/N: We had to do this in class as well. Pick a color; use lots o' similes, and write you own *fake enthusiasm* White... Sounds like the faint rumble of thunder in the distance, Looks like a star, shining through the darkness, Smells like fresh vanilla beans, Tastes like a cup of sugar, and Feels like silk running through your fingers. "Frodo Baggins" A/N: Unlike most here, this wasn't done as a class assignment. I felt like writing this. Companion poem to "Samwise Gamgee," "Meriadoc Brandybuck," and "Peregrin Took." It seems as if life Was planned out for me, But I don't mind, Because if I die, It is nothing more Than the next great adventure. At the end of all things, It had seemed that way, But then I awoke As if it was a bad dream. Yet the burden I bore Was still a weight on my heart. The sea was calling. Now is the end Of all I'll ever know Of my homeland, But it won't matter, For I've realized I have brought safety into the world Once more. I am a hero, I am a memory; I am a Baggins. "Samwise Gamgee" A/N: Did this outside class matters. A companion poem to "Frodo Baggins," "Meriadoc Brandybuck," and "Peregrin Took." Sun rises: I work; I clean. Sun sets; I sleep. These were my days Before darkness fell. I had to restore it, But I was not alone, Which was good... And then there were two. I was one of them. Then I became alone, Realizing his burden. He's over the sea now. It was the best that could be done. I wish it had been different, But at least I still have life. The Gamgees: No longer weak. "This is Just to Say...-Fool of a Took" A/N: Had to do this for school, like so many here. Thought this would be a good image; Pippin talking (confessing, really) to Gandalf. Parody of "This is Just to Say..." You know, the one about eating plums in the icebox? Never mind... I have set fire To the house With the honkin' big firework On the table, And which You were probably Going to conficate Sooner or later. Forgive me. It was so huge, And I am a Fool of a Took. "Peregrin Took" A/N: This was done outside of school. A companion poem to "Frodo Baggins," "Samwise Gamgee," and "Meriadoc Brandybuck." Play, Eat, Drink; Sleep. A hobbit's normal life Far away from strife. Bang, Clip; Clop. The sounds of Gandalf stride With Frodo by his side. Bump, Run; Fall. The day we met again To find their paths were lain. Always running; Never stopping. What went wrong? Why am I here To see all this war? Friends have died, Resurrected; Approached our door. That was Gandalf, Not the only one That meant something In times of trial. It's all over now. Was life planned out for me? Used to think so. Not anymore. Play, Eat, Drink; Sleep. Back to a normal life Far away from strife. Home to a wife, dear. Ow! Stupid chandelir... It is best To give a Took A life at rest. Almost... "Meriadoc Brandybuck" A/N: Did this outside school matters. A companion poem to "Frodo Baggins," "Samwise Gamgee," and "Peregrin Took." Isn't it funny When the smallest person Does the biggest thing Anyone can Ever do? Ha Ha Ha! Never could have happened. Until now, anyway. I'm a Brandybuck. We're at peace! No evil! None! You got to love How things That would never have changed Changed, And I was a part or it all. I helped change Come to the earth. I'm a Brandybuck, And I changed the world. "Ringbearer" A/N: See, this poem, yet again, is for English class. It was supposed to be an iambic four liner (tetrameter), but I got carried away... If all the world had lost its light, Then how come it had not been night? The days, they're growing darker still, And with them comes a ghostly chill. I shall prevail, just like the sun. I shall until all good has won. And though the days bring death and terror, I still remain the One Ringbearer. "Into the Primitive-Snow" A/N: This was done as an assignment for the first chapter of Call of the Wild. From Buck's POV. Fell onto the deck, Mud on the ground. White, slushy mud Falling from the sky, Never stopping to pause And always falling on me. Curiosity took hold. The white stung my mouth Like a swarm of wasps. Then it was gone In the blink of an eye. Men joked and jeered, Pointing at my confusion, But how was I supposed to know It was snow? "The Law of Club and Fang" A/N: Done as an assignment for Ch. 2 of Call of the Wild. Frodo's POV because I was allowed to (it could be Buck's POV as well.) The baron wasteland Bites at my heart, for I'm running from something, But what? My life has taken a turn, Changed into a primordial being. Water is scarce; No food for the journey home. Soon death will come, But I must survive, For in survival, there is hope And life. "Call of the Wild-The Haikus" A/N: Yes, this is another Call of the Wild assignment, except this time, we got to make haikus. Yipee! (Sarcasm.) A cry of sheer rage; A chance to spring on his foe. Does Spitz have a chance? A shrill yelp of pain; The impact of a club on A weak, bony frame. Starving huskies raid On the unattentive camp. The camp had no chance. The dogs yelped and howled As the clubs fell unheeded. They did not struggle. Blazing eyes and fangs, Mere skeletons of the earth, And yet so fearsome. Buck was sprayed with blood. His teeth sank into a foe With a great fierceness. Buck sprang one last time And found the wolf inside him, For Spitz was now dead. "Who Has Won Mastership" A/N: Yet another Call of the Wild assignment. About Dave's death. Screwed up rhyhm pattern, but I don't care! A poor life in vain; A shrill cry of pain, Yet Dave had a wish To be on the rein. His sad, morose soul Cried out for its goal, For on his trace, Dave felt he was whole. But going to speed With the rest of his breed, Like a child with no home, Dave whispered his plead. The trees are a door To a place made for gore, When the gunshot rang out... ...And Dave heard no more... For the Love of a Man" A/N: This is a parody of Sonnet 43 done, once again, for Call of the Wild in English. Well, at least the poetry unit is almost over... How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee in the snow and rain we fight And my feet can reach, when towns are out of sight And the shards of civilization gone. I love thee to the ending of everyday As time goes by, as light and sunshine fade. I love thee quietly, as I lay in shade; I love thee so loyally, come what may. I love thee with a fire all ablaze , As my paws ache, and as I faintly smile. I love thee more than life, and endless daze Of men and dogs- I love thee with the luck And pain that make my life! - and, as I wait, I know you shall say, "As you love me, Buck." |
