GO LANCE, GO LANCE, GO LANCE!!!
Tour de Georgia!!! It's a real thing, and thanks to Rich, I got to see 10 seconds of the action. Rich travelled all the way from Chicago to see Lance Armstrong in this weekend race. I couldn't let him get all the way to the southeast without seeing him, so I drove in from Raleigh to catch a bit of it. Rich did it right -- saw several legs and rode some of the course afterwards. I just showed up to see this little bit, eat some German food, and drink a few High Lifes in a place that wasn't Raleigh.
A bike race is a surprisingly fun way to spend an afternoon. It mostly comprises of the pictures to the left and right -- sitting, waiting, and getting updates from people driving by before the cyclists get to your spot.
Then the first the lead cyclist speeds by. Fourty-five seconds later a whole pack (which I'm told includes Lance) flys past. A few stragglers a minute or two later. Action over. But truely -- it is fun and exciting.
OH -- But in the Tour de Georgia, the fun is only starting!! It was great catching up with Rich back at the hotel, having a pretty decent German meal, and seeing the Booty-Shake Contest at the local dance club. And of course -- santa. No southern tourist town is complete without a larger-than-life, permenant Santa statue. Rich nearly messed himself. Thanks to Rich for a great weekend (I won't get into the loosing my keys story, but that was definitely the low-light of the weekend).
