CHICAGO SNOW DAYS
It is beginning to seem that I never left Chicago at all.  I went up for two weeks in January.  This time I was actually working for my old company.  It was a relief to be busy for a change, and it is always good to pick up some extra cash.  But it wasn't all work.  My job had been pushed off a few days, so I was able to get out and enjoy the 10 inch snow storm that hit Chicago within 12 hours of my arrival.
The night the storm started, I ran into Jesse at the Chipp Inn.  Jesse works with 1st Ward Alderman Manny Flores.  The Ward had borrowed a couple of snow plows to make sure their streets and businesses parking lots were plowed ASAP!!  What an Alderman!  That's why I voted for him 6 times in the last election!
Jesse picked me up the next morning and I spent a few hours listening to 100.3 LOVE FM and plowing the 1st Ward streets.  And whenever we plowed a bar's parking lot, we went in for a few tequila shots on the house.
Jesse's motto:  Plow and Be Plowed.
I bailed on Jesse when LOVE FM announced a 30-minute "rock block" of Lionel Richie hits.  My cheeks were starting to burn from the tequila anyway.  Jesse dropped me off at a train stop and I headed into the Loop.  I wanted to see the snow over the lake, but I chickened out three blocks shy of the beach.  That wind was brutal.  Seeing snow over the Chicago River is just as good, right?
After all that . . . I was COLD!!!  And the best thing about being cold???  Eating.  Food absolutely tastes better after being really chilled.  I walked up to my favorite thai restaurant on Lincoln Avenue and ordered Tom Yum, spring rolls, and a pot of tea.  The owner brought me out a paper, turned on the space heater, and I had the best hour of the day sipping tea and watching crazy asian gameshows on television.  God Bless Chicago.                    <HOME>
