"Classical Guitar." Classical Guitar Ltd [cited 30 September 2007] http://www.classicalguitar.net
The classical guitar was at one time called a tavern instrument; one that did not measure up with the demands of music that was classical. Fernando Sor put into motion in the early 1900s the direction that takes place today, to give rise to the the best musical level that was possible to the guitar. Sor is one of the most productive composers, and men that made evident, the guitar as a "concert" musical instrument, in the last two centuries. Fernando Sor and others made way for other composers and musicians like Andres Segovia to come forth and bring the guitar to the most highest popularity, and todays respect that is so much enjoyed.

Fernando Sor was a Spaniard born in 1778 and died in 1839 who was one of the most famous composers of the classical guitar. Sor composed many studies especially for those of a beginning student nature in playing the classical guitar. The great guitarist and composer Andres Segovia picked out a set of studies that numbered twenty making an emphasis on a particular technique of Fernando Sors. Now a days these particular studies are some of Sor's most popular works. The works are made up of "Duets, Theme and Variations, Fantasies, Waltzes, Sonatas and groups of Studies".

The volume cited here includes many of Sor's most well-known works, such as his first book of studies for guitar (op. 6) and the Variations on "O cara armonia" from Mozart's Magic Flute (op. 9). Some of these works date from Sor's time in Spain before he left that country in 1813, and as such they occupy a valuable place in the rich but still relatively unexplored history of Spanish music of that time.
