RECIFE
In the summer of 1995, we drove from Teresina all the way down to the brazilian northeast coast.Recife, capital of the state of Pernambuco, was our first stop.Often called the  Venice of Brazil for its many canals, bridges, and tiny one-way streets, Recife is a wonderful city in which to wander about, letting chance provide a memorable discovery or two.
Itamaraca Island
In the metropolitan area of Recife, just past the city Olinda, the region comprising the beaches Maria Farinha and Nova Cruz plus the islands of Coroa do Aviao and Itamaraca together form the largest water sport and leisure complex of the Northeast.
We visited only one part of this complex and one thing is sure: you must visit, at least, Itamaraca Island. Look at the picture below and see just a small part of the thousand coconut palm trees that are there. Isn't that beautiful???
We also visited Gaibu beach, only a few minutes drive from Recife.Gaibu beach (picture on your left) and Calhetas beach (see picture down) are divided by a hill. From the top of this hill, the view is pretty, for sure! The rocks constrast with the deep blue see!
Gaibu Beach
The most striking features in this exuberant landscape are the rocks stretching out from the mainland towards the sea, with low bushes, fisherman cottages and a few scattered bars where visitors can savor the fried needlefish agulha and other seafood to the sound of reggae, accompanied by a cool beer or a cocktail of local fruit.
Life is wonderful, anyway, right? Hehe
