BELO HORIZONTE
We had the chance to visit Belo Horizonte, capital of Minas Gerais State, in April/2003, during Easter Holidays. Belo Horizonte is a city that enchants for its joint architectural, one of most beautiful of the country. Colorful parks, squares, gardens, fairs, museums and points complete the charm of the city. The history of Belo Horizonte, the value of the mining art sacra, the evolution of the telephony, the workmanships of the modern artists, contemporaries, and natural history is some of the options offered for the museums of the city. Not to mention also the surroundings cities close to BH, named "historical cities of Minas Gerais", worth visiting too, as you may see next page.
The construction of the joint architectural and paisagistic of the "Square of Freedom" (Praca da Liberdade) was initiated at the time of the foundation of the new capital (1895-1897). Made to shelter the headquarters of the power, the first State secretaries obey to the trend of the time - eclectic style with neoclassic elements. After, the nucleus received constructions from different styles architectural: in the 40's, the style "Art Deco" with covering dust-of-rock of the Palace Christ King; in the 50's and 60's, modern buildings had been implanted, as the Niemeyer Building and the Public Library; already in the 80's, in style after-modern, the "Center of Tourist Tancredo Neves" was inaugurated. The square is one of the main points of the city and is surrounded by palm trees.

The "Lagoa da Pampulha" (Pampuha Lagoon) is another turistical point of Belo Horizonte, where it is located the famous "Museum of Art of Pampulha" (MAP). The building that sheltes the Museum was the first project of Niemeyer, Oscar. Its conception was influenced by the principles of "Le Corbusier". The gardens of Burle Marx are a homage to the tropical green. Three sculptures of Ceschiatti, Zamoiski and Jose Pedrosa decorate the gardens.
