It takes about two hours and a half drive from Santiago to reach Portillo. It is definitely a beautiful trip since we drive surrounded by mountains, as you may see on this picture. |

For 50 years, the world-renowned Portillo Ski Resort has hosted everyone from the U.S. Ski Team to Fidel Castro, and it continues to entertain a veritable Who's Who in skiing and snowboarding. Portillo is set high in the Andes on the shore of beautiful Lake Inca, near the Argentine border. |

Portillo's greatest asset is the heavy snowfall it receives each year (although there's snowmaking equipment just in case), which also means that the road to the resort can close for days and tire chains are frequently required. |
