CHATEAU DE CHEVERNY
The Chateau de Cheverny is located in a clearing in the Sologne Forest in the region of Centre, departement of Loire-et-Cher.  Its design is supposedly a to be a reproduction of a Luxembourg Castle in the true French style favored by both Henri IV and Louis XIII. Chevernys construction, by Count Hurault de Cheverny, began in 1604 and was completed in 1634.  The chateau, and its beautiful furnishings, is still owned by  Count Huraults descendents.

Unlike most of the Loire chteaux, Cheverny is the residence of the original owner's descendants. Designed in classic Louis XIII style, it boasts square pavilions flanking the central pile.
You'll be impressed by the antique furnishings, tapestries, and objets d'art. A 17th-century French artist, Jean Mosnier, decorated the fireplace with motifs from the legend of Adonis.

The Guards' Room contains a collection of medieval armor; also on display is a Gobelin tapestry depicting the abduction of Helen of Troy. In the king's bedchamber, another Gobelin traces the trials of Ulysses. Most impressive is the stone stairway of carved fruit and flowers.
