Fergus Gigs

Some of the below information may not be accurate and there may be gigs missing, especially the early ones

1991:
I have no records of our gigs for this year but we did do a lot.  Hopefully this will be complete.

Funny gigs

Krazy House

We played the Krazy House sometime in 1991 supporting some cock rock band who all wore spandex.  I remember the lead singer jumping off the bass drum.  He also used the old rock line does anyone wanna rock say yeah !

Leons Birthday Party.
After spending the afternoon at Simon and Jackie's flat we headed over to Leons party held in his huge house we had two support bands the Firecharmers and someone else.  I got so drunk that i put the guitar strap around my neck eventually got the guitar on the right way we stared and the next thing i know i feel over into the drum kit and one of the Symbols wacked Yvonne in the head.  She was none plused.

Under the Adelphi  Hotel

We played to strange gigs here one was to a party for teachers and the other a bunch of Students.

Liverpool UNI (Mountford Hall)
We played with a lot of local bands this was a focal point for me as i met my good friend Anton who was the singer in the Screamies at the time.  He could see our great potential.

1992

Jan 92

9th Wilsons
(Wilsons was a Metal heads pub renowned for selling Newcastle Brown.  It also had the shitiest decour in Liverpool.  But it did have Silver Machine and Ace of Spades on the Juky.  It is now a Vodka Bar. RIP)

18th Black Horse & Rainbow
( Still one of the best pubs in Liverpool but it is now called The Brewery. Serves real ale and stays open till 2am.)

24th The Cavern
( Not the real one it is actually built next door.  Only problem with playing the Cavern was you had to sell your own tickets what a con. Rogue Best you know who you are.)

30th Raven Lodge
(Club in Birkenhead good little venue)

FEB 92

11th  Black Horse & Rainbow
(We actually played down stairs for this one thats all I can remember, and got decent pay)

21st The Cavern

27th Lennons Bar
(Named after some famous bloke from Liverpool.  We played with a Jam cover band, the drummer was none other than Fergus rhythm ace Yvonne.)

MAR 92

5th Wilsons

19th  Wilsons

20th Roscoe & Gladstone Hall
(part of Liverpool UNI  a very enjoyable gig I think the stage was very narrow and The Screamies supported. Seem to remember there weren't many in the crowd, but Anton Screamie guested on Janie Jones and the students were pogo-ing for England)

26th The Cavern (again)

APR 92

17th  Raven Lodge
(Someone made a video. Was this the one with the Steve Marriot wannabe?)

23rd Wilsons

29th Cavern
(one of these Cavern gigs contained the famous "Stage trashing" incident when Leon kicked over a monitor, because we where playing away and the crowd wanted more but Mr Best turned the PA off  and an awful lot of squaring-up ensued.  Then Sonia from the band Slug had a argument with one of the bouncers outside as Leon was escorted out of the venue head first.  The outcome was that the majority of the bands we played with boycotted playing the Cavern Club.  The next day Rogue Best called our manager Pete and explained that no one would play at the Cavern because of the incident and begged Pete to get us to play again.  Unfortunately the decision was not in our hands and we ended up playing again at the Cavern.  (rock & roll)

May 92

4th  Sefton Park
(Oh yes, the organisers wanted to cut our set to 15 minutes, or less, but we just kept playing. In the end the event ran out of time and Oceanic got cancelled. Shame!)

16th  St Kaths College
(Just exactly how many people turned up that weren't with us. Answer: < 5. Still didn't stop us getting a good review.)

21st Royal Lancaster (Preston)

(I (Simon) drove most of the gear in Mandy's pickup truck with Leon as passenger. Seem to remember coming off the M58 onto a roundabout at about 60mph)

Jun 92

3rd  Cavern

4th Kings Arms (Preston)
A dodgy little pub on the edge of a nice council estate.  The only bonus, we found a dub record of the Corination Street theme tune

5th Wilsons
The wake
Wilson's was a bikers club and one of the regular bikers has died a week before in a crash.  Unfortunately the night we where playing they where having the after funeral drink up at Wilson's.  We set up our gear and went to sound check when suddenly shouts of abuse came our way and then empty cans of Special Brew ( Piss heads brew of choice ).  Luckily the place started to fill up with the regular  Krazy House Indie heads & Rockers.  We played our set and where feeling all buzzed when suddenly one of the bikers came over to Simon and requested if we knew the song Its a kind of Magic by Queen for his dead biker mate.  Unfortunately we did not have a clue how to play the song and we weren't fans of Queen.  So we decided to play Teenage Kicks and dedicated it the deceased Biker.

11th  Royal Hotel (Crewe)
Indie club night in a very tacky 80's disco

17th  London (Rock Garden)
The Bands first gig in London.  Lots of weed was consumed by myself Leon and Joey  before the gig and Simon banged his head on a speaker while sound checking how we laughed,

24th  Lancaster Uni
On site campus we actually played two bars in one night and i met a girl who i went to school with Maxine Lee.
