In this blog I will discuss various topics that are important to not only me but everyone. IT Security, is one of the most important if not THE most important topic and this is not just for IT professionals it pertains to everyone men, women, and even children, anyone who has or who will access a computer, smartphone, or tablet needs to take security seriously. In today's high tech society we are forever connected, with the advent of IoT (Internet of Things) even our stove and refrigerators can and for the most part are connected to the internet at some time or another and need to be secured. Cybersecurity is something everyone needs to take seriously, because without our focus on securing our technological devices we may end up like yahoo, target, equifax or eBay, all these companies have had data breaches between 2013 and present, as we all take extra measures securing our own devices how do we stop security breaches that are out of our hands like the ones mentioned, we can take certain steps to protect our information that may be on various sites, the first step I would recommend with any online device or account and that would be to change your passwords often and make sure to create a strong password, this can go a long way to making harder for potential hackers to access your devices or data. Another good way to protect yourself and your devices is to have a good antivirus software, there are quite a few programs out there that are free and will do a good job at securing you from potential viruses, worms, Trojans, and any other type of threat hackers will use to gain access, what most user fail at though even with a decent antivirus program is they forget to UPDATE the program regularly, doing this is VERY important because most antivirus programs will update what is called their "Virus Definitions" this means that the company that the antivirus program belongs to has been tracking all the new viruses and potential viruses and have created protection from them and with the updated definitions this will keep you protected from new viruses that have been created since the last definition update, so update the program regularly!!!
