When I started Riverside, I found myself in Miss Fowler's class. She was a Music teacher, and we all liked her. She gave us "Smelly Feet" (-gum sweets) for good work. One day, before the Easter Holidays I think it was, she told us that when we returned, we were to call her Mrs. Dunbar. She was indeed getting married!! As the Summer drew near, she told us she would be moving to Lairg in Scotland with her husband. A few of the girls got her address so they could write to her. I just sent a letter in with my friend Alison. The whole school said goodbye to her and missed her...

I couldn't believe my fate when I found out I was going to be in Mrs. Dorings class for Year 2. My sister had been in her class, and she said she was really strict! She was a French teacher, and I got on OK with her. I remember soon after I arrived, I got my first pair of glasses. I used to sit near the back, but often gazed out of the window during lessons!! Mrs. Doring sometimes called me Claire by mistake, but I didn't mind.

Mr. Chambers was my teacher in the 3rd Year. He was another strict teacher who my sister had also had. We got a visit from the Gideons early in the year, and they gave us a New Testament each which Mr. Chambers asked us to bring along to school so we could read it. We went through Luke's gospel. I remember we had a couple of Bible quizes too. As me and Richard Brunning were from Christian households and went to church, we always came top. I remember knowing an answer and I refusing to give it to him!! Can't remember what the question was though!! I remember there was a time I didn't finish my work on earthquakes and so had to stay in. No-one liked staying in as they were subject to classical music, but I didn't really mind!!!

From Christian teacher to Atheist teacher! Mr. Cox, my 8th year teacher (-they nationally changed the Year system) had a very different approach to R.E! We just read about people and answered some questions about them. I remember reading about Mother Theresa, who I'd never heard of until then. Mr. Cox was a P.E. teacher. I remember going on cross country seemingly all the time. Me and Dad were biking off-road once, and I said that was where we used to go with Mr. Cox! Only other thing I remember from Mr. Cox's class, is Katrina MacDonalds major crush on him!!

Other memories from Riverside include being in Fenland, the best house team by far; winning long jump and breaking the record in the first year; and Mrs. Oates picking on me out of spite when I first got there, but out of fun in the end! I visited Riverside once since leaving, and was sad that she's left... :(
