The day finally arrived when I was to become a "Maroony". At the time, I wanted to be a "Royally" forever!! Wasn't too bad, though. I didn't agree with the rumours that the guys from Breakland were really good looking, but I wasn't too disappointed!
I started off in Mrs. Holmes class, but she left sometime and my form tutor was replaced by Miss Phillips, the strict French teacher. At the time I was really quiet and shy. Think the company I kept changed all that though!
I used to hang around with some 11th year guys (people in my sister's class, two years above me) and 6th Formers. I remember that one day they said I didn't flirt enough. Think it was almost an over-night change from when I was really quiet to when I started giving the teachers grief as a result!! I still remember Miss Phillips, after one such occasion, saying to me, "You used to be so quiet and shy. What happened??"
I could talk forever about my educational experiences at M.U.S. (now Mildenhall College of Technology but that might be a bit boring! All I'm saying, is I was always reasonably studious, and spent a lot of breaks and lunchtimes in the library when I wasn't busy with my social life!! (OK, so I went through a phone book stage, and then a map stage!)
I always somehow got roped into singing in the choir by Mrs Clayton (formally Miss Brace) as I was one of the few people in the school who would sing up! Don't think the endless shouting competitions I did (and won a couple of times!) for charity helped my voice much, though, and I think it's going to take a while for my voice to recover from the last of these. It's still not as strong as it used to be, which is annoying at times!
I've always been one of the few people to enjoy sport, always running long distance for my house team (-Merlins). I also enjoyed field sports, but never did quite work out how to throw a javelin so that it actually goes somewhere!!!
See how I looked when I was sweet 16 and going to the Prom.
