| Well, what were you expecting? T'Pol?! Hardly! Yes folks, I'm Fenix, better known to my friends as Jenica (or Jenna if you prefer!), and I'm a 21-year-old college kid from one of the nine hells known as SoCal (southern California, US of A - please, at this time, all fire jokes aside!). I'm in my junior year of study as a history major/archaeology minor and at this time I'm fortunate enough to be spending it abroad for an academic year at Exeter University in England. From the frying pan into the...err, rain...so to speak! Here I've chosen to set my emphasis on ancient/medieval history and to hopefully get my feet wet in archaeological fieldwork as a side dish. With tomatoes. I've been a fan of Star Trek since sixth grade (approximately 9 years), so I suppose that makes me fairly new to this wonderful world. I grew up watching TOS reruns haphazardly with my dad, who also chose to indulge in TNG as he found time. But the kicker for me was Voyager. I've always admired strong female characters in television and the books that I read, so it's no surprise that I thought Janeway kicked some major pointed booty. I loved the J/C dynamic present in the first few seasons as well. You can see where this is going, I'm assuming...I'm setting the stage for my current love, Enterprise, and the rest is really history. Contrary to popular belief, I do actually have a life outside of Trek! Before coming to England, I was heavily involved with competitive Irish stepdancing for four years, competing at the level of preliminary champion. It kept me fit, it was a good source of stress relievement, and it helped stimulate bits of me that I owe to my being here in the UK now, only a hop, skip, and a jump away from beautiful Eire. Why I quit is a messy, complicated story that I will not get into here. But know that a piece of my soul will always be with Irish dance, and in my heart, I will always be an Irish stepdancer. My other interests include tennis, horseback riding, reading, writing, kickboxing, jogging, swords and weaponry, and travel. It wouldn't be fair to close up without making mention of another piece of my heart, my bestest friend and my furry companion, Baylee. Click here to see how cute she is! I really do owe Baylee a lot. We adopted her along with another male beagle, Barney, from the Beagle Rescue of Southern California in September 2002, where she was previously extremely obese and had a slight limp due to a car accident. It didn't take long to get her weight down though, and a simple surgery at the vet removed three bone fragments from her right front knee (and the limp that accompanied it!). We became fast friends. I only wish I could have brought her with me to England, because I miss her sweet presence and her solid friendship. They really weren't lying when they said dogs are man's best friends...or woman's! E-mail me! I love making new friends! [email protected] |
