簪子是古代中国女性用在发髻上的饰物。中国古人蓄发梳髻，需要发结、发簪固定，在这一实用功能之上，簪子、步摇、珠冠、头钗等装饰的设计与制造一直成为民间和宫廷工艺的艺术瑰宝，具有美学价值。

Hair clasp is mainly for feminine use, for a decoration in the hair. Ancient Chinese people remained long-haired, thus needed hair pins or cords to fix their hair buns. Apart from practical use, the design and fabrication of hair clasps and crests became an important theme of royal and folk jewellers, presenting a great aethetic value.
