NEW BASS: Danelectro Rumor, blue sparkle, pretty, groove, love.

The main bass I play with Fe-Ne-'Tiks is a Dean Edge Q4 (made in Korea) with red transparent finish. The year of this bass is unknown to me, though it is probably around 1998, the year i purchased it.  One thing I do know is that the pots crackle no matter how much cleaner I dump into them, so that sucks.  I also own a Fender fretless Jazz Bass (made in Japan in July 1995) into which I have inlaid rhinestones where the screws from the  pickguard used to be.  It has a good fretless growl and looks groovy. the rhinestones against the black body, unlined rosewood fingerboard, and black strings look sort of like a starry night, I think.  My upright bass is a Scherl & Roth plywood, made in the U.S. of A. I string the Dean with GHS Bass Boomers, the Fender with Fender Nylon Flatwounds, and the upright with Helicore Hybrids. When I use a pick I prefer Fender Classic Celuloid Heavy.

My amp is an SWR Workingman's 10 perched atop a Peavy 215 with mystery mix 'n' match cones (one 15 disconnected so as not to brake the amp).  I bought the 215 used for something like $130 so that explains the unmatched cones. For being only 100 watts it cranks pretty well, and you can't beat SWR for a fullrange of bass and treble. I'm getting a more powerful amp as soon as i get the money, donations are welcome.

I am a sucker for effects.  Analog effects tickle my fancy most of all.  My line-up is Bass ---> BOSS Bass Overdrive --->  Electro-Harmonix Bassballs (USA Re-Issue) ---> Electro-Harmonix Q-Tron Plus ---> Amp.  The Overdrive is nice and fuzzy, good for solos, and also getting that vintage overdriven amp sound.  The Bassballs is a pedal I recommend every bassist shell out the $80 for. It has the goofyiest and funkiest filter sound you can buy for under $100. If I had designed it, however, i would have made a seperate gain control for the fuzz and make it selectable as a seperate effect.  The Q-Tron Plus is my pride and joy.  It is probably THE BEST envelope follower that doesnt actually have a tube in it. entirely analog and soft as cream cheese. I also own a Zoom 708 processor that can be fun from time to time, and a DOD Milk (milt) Box compressor which basically boosts the amount of suck in the bass signal. Makes a good doorstop though.
