Co-written with a dear friend of mine (who does not wish to be named, silly boy...), this story is very dear to me. It came about after seeing Peter Jackson's 'Return of the King.' One scene in particular stood out to me: the scene where the Rohirrim are about to descend onto the battle field and all of them, including Eowyn and Merry, and shouting "Death, death!" It gave me chills, and it also managed to hatch a plot bunny in my mind. Normally, I am a devoted Frodo and Sam fan, but the protagonists of this story are none other than Merry and Pippin. This fic was orignially posted in three seperate parts: a 'clean', slashless version, a mild slash version, and the version posted here. I consider this story to be my baby fic, and I will always hold it dear to my heart. Midnight Whispers |

The musical "Les Miserables" is one of my favourite musicals and the song that this fic is based off of may very well be my favourite show tune. I must warn you, this story is not a happy one. The death of a well loved character occurs, and I had difficulty writing the scene. However, I implore you to look for the good spelled out by the lyrics "And rain will make the flowers grow...." A trend you may notice in my writings is Lothlorien and hope. It always seemed to me that Tolkien made Lothlorien a place for the Fellowship to heal and gain hope enough to continue on the quest. I also feel that the Golden Wood was a turning point in the relationship of Frodo and Sam, whether it be romantic or platonic.
The plot for this particular story was introduced to me in a vauge way by a friend of mine. He insisted that I write a story involving a tree, Legolas, and Frodo and Sam. This was the product. It is much different than what I am used to writing. I've never been overly fond of the elves, save for Galadriel, and Legolas in particular has always seemed an underdeveloped character. I wanted to give him some temptation, and in doing so I ended up portraying the beauty of two people in love Midnight Whispers |
