Severed

Turn back now? We've gone to far?
How was I to know?
One-half of who I am
Is the affection you let me show...

This no longer you want from me
Cut-off by a closing door
Locked behind, my feelings strain
Allowed to surface no more...

Afraid we will fall in the end
So friendship's the path you choose?
Push me away to keep me close?
I fear now we are bound to lose...

To deny these feelings yet stay so near
To resist the intrigue and allure
To not touch your skin, you hair, those lips -
This is the sentence I now endure...

Can't you see my heart is aching?
Can't you feel my severed soul?
I long to show you what I'm feeling
Only then can I again be whole...
My Comments: The ultimate "let's just be friends" poem. Sometimes it can really feel like a rug being pulled out from under you. Always the dilemma: trying to smother the flames fanned by another once they decide to move on to "another fire."
