Ode to a Poupay
Poupay le Pew
Where are you?
Come to me
My baby to be!

How long it's been
I've waited for you
Planning and plotting
And shopping sprees too!

My heart is ready
The stage is set
With frou-frous and tent-beds
for my pampered pet!

And Oh! how pampered
My nameless one will be
Ivana Trump
Has nothing on me!
From your cute puppy paws
To those bat-like ears -
Haute-couture fashion
And elite poupay wears!

You are the first
Of my one-hundred-and-one -
Starting my farm
Will be so much fun!

And soon to Westminster
My poupay will go
To show that damn breeder
Who's Best-in-Show!

Until then my sweet pup
Rest your little head
On designer pillows
And your Ralph Lauren bed!
My Comments: I wrote this for a friend of mine who decided one day to start a collection of French Bulldogs. Typically for dogs that cost as much as French Bulldogs do, one does not enter in so lightly. But, you'd just have to know her to understand, and I think this poem captures her "enthusiasm."
