Courtney Love has been snubbed by fellow female grunge icon Kat Bjelland. The former Hole star offered Kat a songwriting role in her new band Bastard. Kat was approached by Love's management with a list of rules stating how she should conduct herself if she got the job. Before she had even heard any of Love's music, prospective members were also told they would be under contract to Love and not the record company. Former Babes In Toyland singer Bjelland told NME.com: "Courtney didn't approach me personally; her manager called my manager. She had this whole concept down, outlined something like 15 rules. "It was crazy stuff," she said, "like 'no talking about the past', 'no doing drugs in the studio', 'you're practising this many hours of the day', 'you'll get this amount of money'. It was really crazy, really restricting. I thought it was just kind of hilarious, cos aren't you meant to just ask someone if they're interested before you start doing that! "I said I was flattered that they thought of me, but I can't write songs for someone else." Courtney Love is rumoured to be writing and rehearsing new material for Bastard and plans to release an album through Epitaph Records later this year. The group will apparently appear naked on the front cover of their debut album except for black tape across their breasts. Meanwhile, Bjelland has recorded an album with her new band Katastrophy Wife, which features her husband Glen Mattson on drums. The three-piece's debut album will be released on April 30 through London-based label Almafame. Katastrophy Wife are also set to release the single Gone Away and plan to tour the UK sometime this year.

Courtney Love has revealed the first details of her all-girl supergroup Bastard, whilst simultaneously announcing the project is on hold. Love has put the band on the back-burner, as she prepares for her role in the new Luis Mandoki film '24 Hours'. According to a posting on her official website, the four-piece band, set-up as an off-shoot of Hole, have so far recorded four songs. Love explained: "I can't wait to get back to this. This is the happiest I've ever been making music - no boys at all." "We've written four songs - some excellent stuff - nothing slow or mid-tempo, everything fast. We wrote a lot of AC/DC - sounding stuff but always, of course, with that Jane's (Addiction), Zeppelin undertone that I'm addicted to and is part of my aesthetic." Meanwhile Love has claimed that Limp Bizkit should be the support act for Bastard's debut live shows, after seeing their tour equipment at the recording studio. She said: ".by the end of the ten days, I had vandalised every one of their flight cases with white mylar pens. Bastard with special guests Limp Bizkit," she claimed.

Courtney Love's new supergroup is to be called Bastard. The fierce girl punk outfit will feature Love on lead vocals and guitar. On drums will be another former Hole member Patty Schemel. Lead guitar is to be Veruca Salt's Louise Post. Gina Crosley of Rockit Girl completes the band on bass. Love said: 'We're hoping to make a South of France, AC/DC, fuck-off record.' Despite previous comments by Love about the band being a "fun one-off", they have signed a deal with punk label Epitaph and are to enter a L.A. studio next week.

Hole's Courtney Love has signed a solo deal with Epitaph Records and is forming "femme punk supergroup". The singer has yet to reveal who else will be in her new band but has promised that the project it will be "a really fun one-off". The report was posted to Hole's official website, www.holemusic.com, this week and included comments from Epitaph boss Brett Gurewitz. He said: "I've known Courtney since we both used to hang out at punk shows at the Starwood, and I've followed her career as a fan ever since. So when she called up and asked about working together, it seemed like the most natural thing in the world. I hope everything works out." This report comes on the back of Love's recent appearance at a Los Angeles court where she filed a counter-suit against Universal. The star is hoping to cut Hole's ties with the music conglomerate. She has alleged that she was coerced into signing away all her rights, including the ownership of her own music. In a recent statement Courtney said: "Artists who have generated billions of dollars for the music industry die broke and uncared for by the business they made wealthy."
