Glinda the Good Witch is infatuated with being popular at college.  It's who she is.  Discover the more "Popular" way to solve two variable equations.  The substitution method is also one of the easier ways to solve these equations.    

Ex. 1

2x - 3y = -2

4x + y = 24

Change 2x - 3y = -2 to x =  3y - 2 by subtracting -3y from each side.  We want to do this because we want the variable x by itself.  By doing this, we can substitute the value for x into the equation 4x + y = 24.

Substitute 3y - 2 in for x.

Solve for x then plug in that value to get y.

-2x + 3y = 11

2x + y = 9

answer:

 x = -2

 y = 13
